My crd is getting a "click" sound from the rear driver side wheel, only at very low speed (5-10 mi/h).

The click varies with speed and over about 10 mi/h, it disappears.

I can hear the sound turning the wheel by hand while the jeep is lifted.

Any ideas?

Thanks

cracked rotor? bad bearing? Is the entire hub area clean?

There have been some cases of the parking brake shoe breaking loose and moving around inside the rear hub. IT does make a noise at low speed as it climbs up the drum and them falls back down, but as the speed increases the centrifigal force pins it to the inside of the drum. Not hard, or expensive to fix.

Bingo. Your park brake shoe has disintegrated inside your hub. Good luck, it's about $50 just for park brake shoes and that's for the cheap set. Not exactly a 5 minute fix either.

Mine is doing the same thing, really annoying to say the least.

Sounds like an easy fix though, parking brakes are over rated anyway, lol

I had the same issue with ours on the right side. It's not a hard job to do, but it's a royal PITA because you're working behind the axle flange and need about 6 extra fingers.

The root cause of the issue is that the arm the cable attaches to pivots on another arm that is what pushes the shoes out to the drum. Well, the two arms are steel with a bit of zinc plating and poor weatherproofing, so the water and salt gets in there and rusts them up. Finally you are driving around with the parking brakes engaged all the time until they burn up and the shoes fall apart. And, this happened even with them being used all the time!

Secondly, a lot of the poor performance of the parking brakes is caused by rust buildup on the drum surface. Since the parking brake is completely separate from the service brake, it never gets used in a dynamic application (with vehicle moving). Therefore, the rust that naturally builds up from moisture never gets polished off. Rusty drum and dirty shoes = lousy brakes.

The solution to that part of the problem is to make a habit of once a week or so putting the Jeep in neutral at 25mph or so and use the parking brake to stop the vehicle - maybe a little more often if the weather is particularly wet or snowy. That will keep the parking brakes operating a lot better.
