I plan on installing LEDGlow's red interior LED kit [http://tiny.cc/ahsyp] in my KJ. I have two of their 7 color interior LED kits installed in my Acura and am very pleased with them (one is installed in the cabinet and the other is installed in my trunk). How do I wire the kit so it turns on automatically when I open my doors, turn the ignition on (position I), and crank the motor (position II)? I plan on mounting the control box in the armrest so I can still control the multiple unique lighting effects, sound activation feature, and power. To those who have interior LED kits installed, feel free to post any pictures 8) Thanks in advance for your help!

Grab your DMM and find the negative trigger at the door pin and connect it to the ground on the control box. Connect the +12V on control box to constant 12V (cig lighter would be OK I guess). Use your DMM to find "true ignition" probably at the column. This will be the wire that maintains +12V through the start cycle; acc will drop out while cranking. Once you find the wire, get your 30A SPDT relay and connect ignition to terminal 85 and terminal 86 and 30 to ground. Terminal 87 goes to the ground on the control box but it will be very important to diode isolate the ground wire from the door trigger from the wire from the relay or else your dome light will come on whenever ignition is on.

Hope this clears thing up for you.

Thank-you for the information!

I talked to the tech support at LEDGlow; the guy I talked to informed me that the kit can only have one power source. Thus, my original plan of having the LED interior kit turn on both when I open my doors and when I start my KJ is not possible. I still don't understand why I couldn't splice the wires or install a relay or bypass module to make it work like I originally planned.

I now plan on wiring the kit to my radio so it will at least turn on and off with the ignition, since I would rather have it on when I am driving instead of only when I open my doors.

Just because their tech support said it can't be done doesn't mean it can't be done. With the proper wiring and use of relay's int he correct manner...anything can be done. Follow JL's post, I'm about 99.99999% sure it can be done.

I assure you that I am smarter than anyone working tech support at a company called "LED Glow"
