So has anyone else seen the new popular mechanics? There were 2 articles in there that caught my attention.

The first was about their long term CRD KJ. It threw a code and had to go to the dealer, they replaced the EGR, imagine that, only the problen did not go away and at the time of publishing it was back at the dealer. That was not that interesting obviously to anyone who is a member of LOST with a CRD.

What was interesting was the article on the Mercedes catalytic oxidizers that will allow the Mercedes diesels to meet the 2007 emission standards. I think that consumers might have a problem with the urea injection, having to fill up another resovoir will be an inconvience, however apparently the urea injection will not be required on some models only the catalic oxidizers. This I believe is good news for the future of the diesel in the Jeep. If Mercedes has the technology, Jeep has the technology.

Got my PM in the mail and read it twice already :D

I was thumbing thru some mags at the store yesterday and I was looking at a 4WD mag (can't remember which one) and it had a cool article on the future of diesel....or something like that. It talked about the various PU engines and mentioned the MB blue tech and did have a pic of a new style grand cherokee with the new CDI V6 (can't stop drooling LOL).

I really think diesel is going to make a huge comeback in the US in the next few years. I even believe in the possibility of many of those tree huggers that pat themselves on the back for driving a hybrid will switch to diesel for some REAL  increases in mileage and the "no war required" biodiesel will be also be a big selling point.

just my 2cents

I think that Biodiesel is a huge selling point for diesel vehicles. In fact, it is the whole reason we bought the CRD.

As people become more and more knowlegable about biodiesel via the mainstream press and the alternative energy coverage they will be more interested in diesels and see the new clean high mileage diesels....

People are amazed when they see the CRD. They can't believe how quiet it is and the fact that it doesn't blow soot out the tailpipe and when they drive it they like how powerful it is.

Yesterday I went skiing and we had a snowstorm where they got over 30 inches in 24 hours and roads were BAD. The CRD is awesome in snow. I am using B50 (50% biodiesel) right now and it had no trouble after sitting all day in a 20degree snowstorm.
