Just thought I'd add this thread for the heck of it. Any NASCAR fans out there?

Yes, I'm a dyed in the wool NASCAR fan from way back. I attended my 1st NASCAR sanctioned event in 1974 at the old Riverside Raceway and have been a fan ever since. My loyalties have changed over the years as the old guard was replaced with the "Young Guns". I was then and will always be an admirer of "The King", Richard Petty. I was a huge Rusty Wallace fan before he retired and am now in the 48's corner. Yes .... a Jimmie Johnson fan! Being originally from El Cajon, California I had actually heard of and followed Jimmie in the off-road racing scene before he even joined the NASCAR ranks. I am an alumni of his high school ( Granite Hills High ).

I have attended NASCAR sanctioned races at Riverside Raceway, Phoenix, the old Ontario Speedway, the new California Speedway, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indianapolis Raceway Park, Chicago, Michigan Speedway, Richmond, Memphis, Kentucky, Daytona and Pocono. I would like to eventually attend races at all the big tracks. I am actually just a huge race fan of any series and have seen racing as just a fan at over 80 tracks now. It doesn't matter which series, I'm a fan of fast cars. NASCAR, IRL, USAC, NHRA, IHRA, Stock cars, modifieds, sprint cars, drags, off-road, road racers, it doesn't matter. If it goes fast and there's a checkered flag, I'll watch it.

So ... let's hear from the rest of you! I know I'm not the only race fan here.

I dunno Larry... first you put a F@#d motor in the Jeep, then you are a JJ fan.... not sure if I can talk to you anymore.... :goink:

I used to be into NASCAR big time, got tons of diecast cars, junk, but have lost interest in the last few years. Doesn't help when you driver has went to pot the last few years. I was big Earnhardt fan, my world was crushed Feb 2001 when he died. Of course I went with Jr, but he pretty much sucks anymore. Been to Kentucky speedway for then Busch race and for a Pocono race about 5 yrs ago. No other drivers I really like so I've lost most of any excitement for following it. There is sometimes I don't even know who won whatever race until a few days later.
I would rather Monster Jam ,CORR, motocross or drag racing if I can find it on....can't do open wheel at all!!!

I'm a Nascar fan. If I am home on race day it's turned on. Started working at the local dirt track when I was thirteen. Selling peanuts/popcorn in the stands at first then later on I made it all the way to pit concessions. :lol:

Watched a lot of races and got hooked.

I'm not the NASCAR fan I was. I grew up watching it and my favorites driver was Darrell Waltrip. But I have a hard time getting into it as much these days. The drivers are all very milquetoast. The tracks all seem the same too, usually 1.5 to 2 mile d-shaped ovals. NASCAR needs to ge bring back some of the tracks it used to have like rockingham or give back races to places like darlington. It also needs more drivers from the Carolina's and Virginia. It seems most now are Jeff Gordon clones from some non-descript California town. Just my :2cents:

I've been a fan for many years, but my interest is fading. Was a big Dale SR fan, '01 was a sad year. JR sucks anymore, don't know what his problem is. I root for Montoya & RCR now. Been to Dover, Richmond, Martinsville, Charlotte, Darlington, & 'Dega. I've been going to the Fall Dover race every year since '89, after last Sunday's snoozefest, I don't plan on going back there anytime soon.

). It was a 3/8 mile high bank asphalt track. I made it to the pit concessions too, but went back to selling in the stands so I could make money AND watch the races!

DW huh? I agree about some of the tracks too, but they are all different in their own way.

RAF, It's too bad your interest is fading. I am just as enthused on raceday as I ever was. I was one of the people who admired Dale Sr. for his accompishments, but wasn't a real big fan (I thought), but the day he had the accident affected me more than just about anything in my life except the passing of my own father. I went in to work on Monday and informed my boss I was taking a few days vacation because Dale Sr. died. He said "who?" My wife and I left Tuesday morning from Ohio and drove to North Carolina. We went to RCR gates and laid flowers, went to the memorial at the local high school football stadium on Thursday where the mayor, Richard Childress, Theresa and Dale Jr. all spoke. A real tear jerker ceremony that was. Then went ahead on down to Rockingham and bought tickets for the race the next weekend there. The race ended up getting rain and postponed til Monday so we stayed and I didn't get back to work til Wednesday!

As far as snoozefests, there is always going to be a few of those every year at some track or another as some team just hits the perfect setup. At least it's not like back in the day when there were several races every year in which there was only 1 car on the lead lap. I can remember at least a couple worse than that. I think The King won a couple by 3 or 4 laps over 2nd place! And who was it won 'Dega by 7 laps over 2nd place!!!! Talk about snoozers! I think the competition is better than it has ever been in the history of NASCAR!

Back in the 60s when I first met my Step father he was talking about cousins and such and it turned out that William Yarborough was a cousin, of course most everyone know's him as Cale.
Bounced around with a few drivers over the years, but followed closely all along until the last few years.
I mean who else goes out and buys off the showroom floor to have as a DD but a NASCAR fan

KJ, we did make a trip to NC a few years back & toured some of the race shops, that was pretty cool. The best & most moving part was being in the Dale SR square in Kannapolis, and the trip to the RCR museum. They were both worth it.

I also enjoyed going to Myrtle Beach Speedway while on vacation there. Grass roots racing, had a ball. Hopefully we can go there when on vacation next year.

While my interest in NASCAR is fading, I've gotten back into NHRA drag racing. A few years back, me, the wife & kids went up to Maple Grove, and seeing the looks & reactions I got from them the first time a fueler warmed up in the pits & then ran down the track was priceless. They ask about going back every year. :lol:

NASCAR tried to derail them over the last 5 years and couldn't do it! Changed the cars to the COT, Changed to a different spoiler, changed it back, changed the rules, added the chase format, changed the chase format and the 48 team has raced and fought their way through all this and won 5 Championships in a row!!!!!!!! :goink:

Again ..... Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only John Force in NHRA at 10 in a row :shock:

, and Michael Schumacher in F1 at 5 in a row, have accomplished this feat in the racing world. Extend that to all sports and there are still only a few teams that have accomplished this amazing feat!

I'm so sick of him winning. There needs to be a rule like the president, you can only win 2 in a row, then no matter what, you can't win the next year. Geesh, it ain't worth watching anymore. :banghead:

I grew up going to the dirt tracks as a kid. I really enjoyed watching the sprint cars and modified stock. NASCAR was something my Dad always had on T.V. I can’t say I’m a huge NASCAR fan, but I do appreciate the sport and enjoy watching it on the big screen.

The track I worked at is still there and open I still go a few times a year. Heck I only life three miles away and you can tell what cars are racing by the sound from my garage.

Watched Evil Knievel jump 20 sum cars there and met Robbie Knievel when he was 5 or 6 years old. I spent my whole summers at the track and on weekends during the day I was there cleaning up So I got to meet a lot of people. Joey Chitwood,We got in trouble for having our own demo derby with his junker cars that he did his stunt crashes with before he had a chance to use them. Good thing the owners liked us because we still kept our jobs. :lol:
