So the wife wants to sell the 06 CRD. I love my ride..I got a great deal on it. paid $5,000 a few months ago with 77k on it. I knew it needed some work, and took it to the dealer all its dash lights where on and it ran like crap, all she needed a new PKM and egr and wheel speed sensors. $1700 later she was fixed and runs great. The wife thinks we need something bigger and says it costs just as much if not more to put Diesel in it so any added mileage is not a benefit. Also it cost alot more to fix anything in this ride when you tell the shop its is a diesel and then finding someone to work on it is another chore. The wife found out that they don't make these in the US anymore and is afraid we wont be able to get parts and will be to expensive to fix. I'm thinking of selling her for $12k..NADA is 14,700 retail...what are your thoughts. I cant replace her with anything comparable for the money. I need 4x4 4 doors and something that gets good gas mileage...any ideas can anyone give me some ammo to keep her...or if I where to sell it..what to replace it with?

--- dude you can still have this car. if youll just analyze the strategy to repair it. Here is a good source where you can calculate your Car Repair Costs and think of your budget on this one. dude there is no way you have to keep it. goodluck

Look for a good diesel mechanic now and not when you need one. Ask other crd owners about their mechanics in your area, call a local trucking firm to see where they get their maintenance done.

Cost per mile is always higher than we expect when you add in vehicle cost and maintenance. I had a volvo I drove to the moon before it died. I put $2,000 a year into the car. Once I loaned it to my son, he did not keep it up and it was junk after 2 years....389,000 miles...it was time to put her to bed. I new car would have cost me at least $350 a month or $4250 per year for just payments.

Just plan on a couple thousand a year in maintenance and your CRD should last the 300,000 miles. Chances are most years you won't have to spend that much anyway....

Another good way to locate a good Diesel Repair shop is to ask a regional Injector/Injection Pump repair shop (you can find them on Google), they know who is good and will recommend their customers.
When I had my shop, I got referrals from the place I used for injection pump work.

no just drive it and enjoy it for what it is, a great vehicle. when it comes time to do some work on it... do as much as you can yourself. Seroiusly I am not any kind of mechanic.... I'm a computer technician. I can change my own oil, fuel and air filters, could and will be changing a thermostat myself. I could change a boost hose if needed too. most of the things that often go wrong here are not hard to fix with basic tools its the parts and the time that cost, and thats the deal for every car on the road too my friends. you can cut down paying for the time by just manning up some and getting your hands a little dirty doing some things yourself.
