They have these filters that help extend oil changes and suppose to extend engine life.they are here www.fs2500.com . Did any of you diesel guys ever used them. One of the benefits is keeping your oil at a honey -like color and keeping the inside of your engine clean. the guys that use them run oil analysis on their engine and say 30,000 mile oil change are possible with synthetics diesel oil.

Amsoil has a auto sized system that been out in many forms for a long time. I had one on my Dodge D-50. 100,000 mile oil changes and it was at 277,000 mi. and still ran very well when I sold it.

They won't help much in keeping your oil clear/amber color. The soot is supsended in the oil and is much too small to be filtered by any filter.

I see bypass filters as a waste of money in non-commercial applications. One of the main reasons that you can extend oil intervals with a bypass filter is that a bypass filter application often requires frequent filter changes. If toilet paper is used as the filtering material, you are in essense doing a partial oil change everytime you replace the filter. The 3 bears oil study (paradise garage) showed that simply topping off oil and/or changing an oil filter and topping the level back to the full mark greatly extended the oil's life with a small, but essential, fresh dose of additives.

I disagree. The Amsoil bypass filters sub micron. On my Dodge gas engine the oil never got over a dark brown in 100,000 miles of use before I changed the oil. I changed the oil filter every six months and the bypass every year, the only makeup oil I ever put in the engine was in the filters when I pulled them off. There was no toilet paper or any such thing in them, it was just an extra spin on filter on my back firewall. The filter would filter india ink and stove black out of clean oil. It would also filter out and hold water if any was in the oil. You can get a kit that spins on in place of your original filter than put the filters wherever you can find the room. or your can "T" your oil pressure sender and take supply from there. It bypasses about 10 % of your full flow capacity thru the bypass at any one time. I ran mine on the truck for 277,000 miles and 15 years with zero problems. The interior of the valve cover had no varnish, sludge, or crud of any kind in it in 15 years, the natural gasket enhancing properties of Amsoil kept my engine almost leak free for 15 years with no gasket mainteance. My service manual said I had to change the timing chain and all it's parts at 80,000 if I remember right, I pulled the cover, dropped the chain at 130,000 and inspected everything including checking chain length to measure wear on the pins and rollers. All parts in the timing system were at new specs and were never touched again till I sold the rig.
At 277,000 miles the engine still started as new.

I'll be interested in A bMK-12. where would I run and attach all of the oil lines though, I don't mind drilling and tapping, but little more.

Hi this is my first post to this list and I have been lurking and reading for a few weeks now. Amsoil has come out with a new line of filters that will take care of the soot from what they say. It is the Ea line of oil filters. When I get myCRD I will be installing the Amsoil dual bypass filter system with the new EA filters. I recognized Gregs name from another diesel list we were on together but that goes back a few years. Diesel Power Magazine has a very favorable article on the Liberty CRD and about the diesel auto industry and where it is going in the current issue. I am really excited about this little diesel and hope to have one within the next 30 days.
