Anyone know where you can get either a hook or shackle for a class 11 hitch (1 1/4" receiver)?
All the ones I've seen are for a 2" receiver.

Thanks :)

BTW, nice find on the hook!

Look for them in ATV supply places, since 4-wheelers generally have the smaller size hitch receiver. I personally think it's a Bad Idea, since a 1 1/4" receiver probably isn't strong enough to pull a liberty, so a shackle in a 1 1/4" receiver will definitely not be enough to recover one.

Thanks for the links!

Not sure why a 1 1/4" receiver would be a bad idea though. Both the class 11 and class 111 Draw-Tite hitches are rated at 3500# towing capacity, and both attach to the frame (which is the reason I lost my rear tow hook). So unless I'm missing something, which is entirely possible, it seems they would both have the same capabilities in a recovery situation. It seems the pin (which is the same size in both) would be the weakest point.
I dunno.

3500lb is the towing capacity - recovery is generally a lot higher, sometimes double or triple the vehicle weight. (when you get a tow strap you'll see it rated for 20,000lbs or more, especially the ones with some bounce in them).

Are the pins the same size? I thought that the 1 1/4" receivers had a smaller pin (the store has more than one hitch pin size, so I can't imagine what the smaller pins would be for if not for the smaller receiver). I'm pretty sure that the weakest point is where the receiver bolts to the frame. For a hitch pin to fail, it would have to sheer the metal (not bend it). For the connection to the frame to fail, either the hitch hanger, bolt, or frame would need to break, and all of those are bendable.

In any case, unless you have a 2.4L, I would say get the class III hitch, it's better to be safe than sorry. But if you've already got the 1 1/4" hitch, go for the ATV shackle and hope for the best!

Yup.

In fact I've towed a boat/motor/trailer weighing WELL over 3,000 lbs with a '93 Cherokee I had before buying the Rubi. Same class 11 hitch on both. My strap is rated at 20,000#.

Not trying to beat this to death, but I don't understand the diff between a class 11 and a class 111 hitch, if they are both rated for the same tow rate and they both attach to the frame.
Seems the only difference is in the receiver diameter.
