As I was driving home yesterday I stopped at a light and noticed a strong smell of burnt oil and also saw a very small whiff of bluish smoke come up from under the hood. I popped the hood when I got home and found that the valve cover on the passenger side is leaking a small amount of oil towards the back of the engine. My thought is that I have a bad valve cover gasket, if there is such a thing. I still need to take some time to investigate the issue further (was in my office clothes at the time), but is there such a thing as a valve cover gasket and if so what's the part number?

I'm dreading pulling that valve cover to check it out further because it's under so much stuff (A/C lines, air inteke, etc.). Anyone have a trick for pulling that valve cover off with relative ease?

I can post up picks later tonight of exactly where the leak looks like its coming from if that would help in the dicussion.

There is valve cover gasket,it's actually a rubber o-ring though. The passenger side is a bit more difficult because of those 2 heater core lines(not A/C).Might want to make sure it is the valve cover since the breathers are also located on the back of the heads also in the area of your leak.

Ya make sure that the breather hose is
not cracked, if it is, it might be your
problem, I had to replace mine not to long ago
for the same reason.
Good luck and update us please...

Where abouts is the breather hose? I may have a similar problem as meduncan.

Still haven't had time to check out the KJ, but I hope to do so tonight. I'll take pics of the leak and where the breather hose is.

redsnake, I replaced my valve cover gaskets not too long ago and it solved my issue of what the original poster described. Not too bad of a project, I'll post some pics of the covers off the engine so you can see what the end product looks like. Like TJKJ said the heater core lines need to be moved some but you can move them enough to get the cover out without removing the lines.

Thanks for that info. I have new VC gaskets and I'm planning to try & knock that out tommorow morning. Pics &/or any tips and details would be much appreciated.
