Oh, I have a feeling I'll be over there looking at it at some point.

surprisingly, i have not drank more than 2 beers amount of alcohol in my life. so i can say i dont like beer lol

i had a guy come look at it today. i have a rod that is knocking, and the piston is hitting the valve cover because it is not closing causing the misfire. i drained my oil that was about 3000 miles old, it was completly black and had gold flakes in it...so im researching pre mature engine failures on the 3.7 to see what i can do about it. I am not too happy with what happened. Very upset because the way this engine is running at this many miles on GREAT maintenance, I am probably not going to invest any more in the jeep, might fix it to sell it. other than that, this engine is a piece of junk in my opinion if this happened. Chrysler should really investigate on this

this one has the closest to my problem

So, i think my jeep was made on a friday due to one of these guys :5SHOTS:

Okay I know you have some miles on the engine and just because you had a failure you are starting to sound like the CRD guys and automatically thinking it's a design flaw.Well sorry to say it is not, there are over 5 million 3.7 V6's around the world and with any mass produced product you will have some early failures. Now yours is not a early or low mileage failure.Parts fail, even if you take steller care of it parts still wearout and fail. When? Well it can happen anytime. You are just mad because you had a engine failure, which has yet to be documented without some digging around in the engine, and your mad as you have no money which is understandable but not Chryslers fault.

By the way 3.7's do not have a sludge issue, they have a carbon issue but all multiport FI engines have a carbon issue and in no way effects the valvetrain in what you engine may or may not have. And by the way a bad chain tensioner will give you plenty of warning before failing and the fact the 3.7 is not classified as a interference engine so even with a failed tensioner no valve contact will occur. It would take a chain failure for that to possibly happen.

Just remember you will only find the bad about something on the internet and never find anything good.I do not believe anything on the internet until proven off the internet 1st.Anyone can make a bad claim against anything on the internet and you have no way of knowing if it is actually real or not.

atleast you read it...im hoping to take the engine apart soon at my friends shop and start taking it apart. yes i am very upset, but we will see what happens. if you have any idea what could be wrong spread your word. we checked if the plugs were tight, we pulled the coils out. and took a screwdriver to hear where the knocking came from. time will tell. i am just pissed because this is my own personal that has had a major flaw that requires a lot of repairs. and babying the jeep and range rover seems to make them upset and keel over

I can tell your mad and upset,I would be to but yes stuff does fail.Don't you have like well over 100K on that engine?

You know it may just be a broken/loose rocker on #6,just pull the valve cover and look. It's like a $16 part and takes a $35 tool to install. It maybe as simple as that, then again it may not be.

just hit 82k

the main reason why i am concerned is because of the gold flakes in the oil, and i also have gasoline mixed in my oil. you could smell it. Something is a lot more wrong than i think, so this whole winter is going to be a tear down :/

Worst case scenario, maybe a free parts weekend at Victory can get it back on the road for cheap. Too bad we don't know when the next one is yet.

the only way to know what IS wrong, remember, IS...i will have to have it taken apart

all i am saying is our family friend who worked on BMWs for 30+ years and was a racecar driver for a BMW GTOP team for le mans and 24 daytona...he knows a thing or two about engines if you catch my drift. he was looking at it for over and hour, listening to it, looking at the oil, pulling plugs and just pretty much looking at every dimension of what could be going wrong...of course, hedidnt take the engine apart or tear it down, all listening and looking at what he could with no shop. So, now I am at where I cant drive it, so i have to do something about it. We already had a range rover that turned into a money pit. now that this happened i can guarantee you this will not be kept if it causes it to be a money pit. its just a bad situation i guess.

if you come up with anything, ask around at the shop Troy and see if you have ever had a case with a 3.7 that failed like i described mine earlier, see what was wrong with yours and i will make sure to look for any of those problems when i take it apart
