I took my KJ to the dealer for 2 problems yesterday.

1. When I turn on the heater I could smell coolant.
2. There was a muffled metallic clicking on the left front.

Try as I might I could not find a leak in the cooling system. So, off to the dealer.

#1 They put it on a compression tester with the Jeep running for about 1/2 hour. The pressure never changed and they couldn't find a leak either. Such is life I guess.

#2 Nothing needs replaced. That was good news! Here is what they put on the paper work:
"Upper ball joints popping, play in right front axle flange and play in pinon gear/bearing"

I'm not physically able to do the above work so I would have to pay someone to do it. That is gonna be costly! I have been thinking about getting that Dana 30 from Jeepin By Al. That would be somewhere around $1,500 to $1,600.

Now, I am open for suggestions. No matter what I do it is gonna cost bunches of dollars!

Terry

do you have stock or aftermarket A-arms?

that steel diff is mucho deniro. would cost about $2250+ shipping for the diff with 4.10s installed on a stock carrier, more if you want a locker. im not sure what the dealer mean by right front axle flange...

if you would like some help within the next week im free from work and might be able to lend a hand if we can go wheeling afterward :SOMBRERO:

I already have the 4:10 gears and his upper arms. So I would be getting just the bare necessities. Maybe I could talk my brother into picking up the diff. and meet me 1/2 way down here and save on shipping. He lives in NW Pennsylvania. That is assuming he could dig himself out of the snow before July! He lives about 30 miles south of Lake Erie in the snow belt.

Terry the gears would unfortunately not work in the steel diff. The steel diff is the same as a cherokee or wrangler, the kj diff is unique to the kj itself. I would just save the money and not get the steel diff.

The ubj should be easy to do with the JBA arms.

I forgot about that. As for the flange, the only thing I can think of is the bigger part on the housing where the axle goes into the housing.

thats weird that would be loose. dont know how someone could break that. so they are saying you would need a whole new differential? if so, there is a diff in the fs section.

Don't tell anyone, I already have a spare one! The wife doesn't know it!! I guess I should come clean. I need a good reason to get the steel Dana 30. Then later I can sneak in some lower gears and play on the trails with real gusto!!
