Has anyone on here done this before? I wanted to go ahead and take out my carpet in the Jeep. It very nasty, I don't have a carpet cleaner and it would be much easier if I just ditched the carpet. I was wondering if I could just take out the carpet and buy a can of Herculiner to line the inside. My other option was take the carpet out and buy vinyl to put inside. So my first question is, should I bed-line the inside or use vinyl? I prefer bedliner cause I want that tough look.
Second question: How do I take the rear seats out? I was looking at the rear seats where they are bolted down. It looks like you just unbolt the seats, but there's always a trick to these Liberties. What about the front seats? How do I get them out?

So once I have the seats out, can I just pull out the carpet OR is there more to it? I don't know how to take out the center console if that is needed to be taken out. Geez, I have so many questions and I'm only one person so I do everything myself. I need something to do for the next few weeks before college starts back. Hope you all can help me out (I won't fuss for those who have seen the "other" thread)

One more question, the wires...once I have the carpet out, how do I go about hiding the wires? I thought there could be a way to group them together and run them along the inside of the jeep...there's got to be a way to hide them so the wires won't get damaged and look hideous. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

1st you got alot of wires running under the carpet(almost all on the drivers side),alot of work to re-route them so they stay protected.

Just be very careful with the drivers side rear seat pivot bolt, breaks very easy and is a dealership only item that cost $7 for one tiny bolt,I know I had to buy one when I had to rip most of my interior out to change to disc brake parking brake cables.

Yeah, just got off the phone with a friend of mine. He just bought a Rubicon and has a built Liberty. At one time, my friend had the same idea as me; remove the carpet and bed line the inside. Well he told me while he was doing this he saw a bunch of wire, and if I understood him correctly they ran to this computer thing on the driver side??? His accent throws me off at time (he's a Texan)...  All the wires and that computer thing he saw detoured him from finishing the job.

So is there really a computer component on the driver side that all the wires run to? When I get ready to do this, I'll find some one whose knows what they're doing and pay them to move my wires inside the Jeep to keep them safe. I have no idea where to start and I'm not about to do it on my own. Guess I'll have to look at the ugly carpet for a few more months, til it warms up. :( :( :(

That computer is the airbag control module and you do not want to mess with that at all.

Haha!!! I don't want to lug around that. Might have to do that though, some time.

Man, these Liberties just keep getting more complicated as I start to mod. Oh well, bite the bullet and go on. :5SHOTS:

Not a lot of room to move the wires out of the way
Plus the carpet and insulation helps keep the heat down in the interior as well. I know of someone who removed his for a short time, floors got pretty warm driving

I was worried about that. Hmm, guess I will have to resort to Plan B.

why not just get a cheap replacement carpet from ebay? I found one for $107 + $15s/h so we're not talking about a ton of cash. I did it once for one of my cars and the carpet was decent enough quality.

I did the rear of the kj for the dog. I was tired of the dog hair in the carpet and decided to strip it and Heculine the cargo area. Worked great. I did have to reroute some wiring but it wasnt hard in that area at all. I was told it was going to get too hot for the dog to be back there but I drove over 6000+ miles this summer in 1 trip and didnt get hot at all. It is noisier for obvious reasons after taking the padding out. I love how it works and looks now and it was a quick and easy job. I know this doesnt answer your whole question about the whole jeep but you might be able to start small.

I've been wanting to to this since I bought the Liberty but haven't had the time. The one thing I miss the most about my Comanche was the vinyl floor, so easy to clean up after taking it out in the mud.

Instead of herculiner, image & a link.

I would go this route over herculiner, but it does not look/state weather or not the vynil has the insulation under it as the carpet does. YOu could get this from JC WHitney http://www.jcwhitney.com/heat/sound-ins ... ilterid=j1 to cut and put under it, as I am doing under my carpet for the SFA project due to where the exhaust will be routed and Troy's is a bit louder inside than I want mine to be.

If my Libby was a hardcore wheeling machine and payed off I'd do this. It's already kinda loud with the Super44. The "girl" would kill me if I did this. Of course then that means we take her car and less miles on the Jeep.....hhhmmm :5SHOTS:
