So I did something stupid. It was cold and my family was in the Jeep so I left it running while I fueled up. I know I know...shouldn't do that.

In any case, my needle stayed on empty. After about 25 miles it crept up toward full. Now, it's showing 1/2 and I've only gone 145 miles! What did I do to kill the guage?

Try disconnecting the battery for 30 secs.

If that doesn't work, then I have no idea. Stupid BCM's Image

Mine did something like this once, but it resolved itself after it sat for a few hours. I chaulked it up to fuel gelling, imagining a chunk of crisco floating in my fuel tank messing with the float (back when I risked running higher concentrations during cold months). Do you have any biodiesel in your tank?

My last few tanks have been non-biodiesel. However, it has been close to 0°F and I haven't been using anti-gel. The stations here "guarantee" their fuel down to -20°F. I guess I should start using anti-gel anyway! And, shut the Jeep off when fueling.

I think it's more likely the computer doesn't know how to display properly if it has a sudden increase in fuel volume without having a stop/start cycle. I've done this before to keep a newborn warm and happy and within a few days, the problem corrected itself with no ill performance effects.

Many vehicles will do this. It usually normalizes within half an hour or so.

I do it all the time. Sometimes it takes a while to correct itself. I wouldn't worry about it.

This is normal as it is "Software" controlled. This is done so the gauge doesn't move all over the place when out 4 wheeling.
As soon as you cycle the key (turn off engine and restart) all will be fine.

By the way, it is perfectly legal to refuel in most states without shutting off the engine. Diesel fuel has no fumes as it is an oil, and the engine has no ignition source to light off fumes.

Works for me.

Well, I did cycle the engine on/off a couple times...and the guage did not return to Full. Also, at only 145 miles it was showing half after it did finally make it up to Full. It definitely got screwed up.

I'm going to fill it up this weekend and see how much fuel it takes to top of the tank. Then I'll know whether it's still accurate or not. :?

I have refueled several times with the engine running. Its always been spot on full when I get back in to drive off. Don't know if I'm lucky or what.

You must have different software than me. When I refuel with engine running, the gauge takes 20 minutes to get up to F. Turning it off for a few minutes also resets it.

It may be that my software is different. I can't remember if I tried it before the eco tune or not but I'm thinking I didn't or can't remember doing it before. I got the eco tune in September so I may have newer code. not sure if that's the difference. I did fill it from only 1/4 tank not empty and parked on level ground but then all filling stations are flat.
