I have them. They're brighter then stock. Ddm tuning hid's are similar in price and will probably last longer. Silverstars don't last, when mine burn ill be making the switch to hid.

I've ran them before and they don't seem to last very long compared to the standard bulbs. If they cost less, I'd say its worth it, but at roughly $20 a bulb, and having to change them more frequently than standard ones, I'll keep the $10 bulbs.

I've had both the Ultras and the GE Nighthawk Platinums. Both are great bulbs for the money. I currently have the Sylvania Ultra H3s in the Hellas and the Nighthawk Platinum 9007s in the headlights.

I'm running the Ultras. They're much brighter than the stock ones but don't last as long. I don't care; I'd rather have brighter lights than dull ones.

Are you guys all getting your sticky fingers all over the bulbs before you turn them on??? I'm with Tomm on this one. Mine have been in for a year, if not longer. Wipe the bulbs with an alcohol swab to get any crap off of them. They'll last a whole lot longer!!

When I bought mine I read the info on the package and they are only rated to last one year, but will replace them if they do not last one year.

Same here. I put them in right after buying the jeep 2.5 years ago and still working like a charm. I was hoping my standar fogs were going to die so I would have a reason to upgrade them to silverstars but they have yet to fail.

I run my parking lights and fogs all of the time almost, When I bought the "used" ARB it had the fogs already in there, can't remember which bulb now, that was in March or April 2005, and they are still going strong!
of course I just jinxed them and they'll burn out tonight :banghead:

I have the renny fogs and I run them all the time too. They are the same bulbs that were in when I bought the jeep and I WANT them to burn out so I have an excuse for the wife to get new bulbs. Hell I just got her to agree I actually needed new suspension, as if it wasnt enough that a previous certified tech's opinion meant anything...Oh wait :ROTFL:

I'm always super careful not to touch the glass.

It always seems that this subject is always split about 50/50. I'm curious why some have excellent experiences with these, and others have such a terrible one. I wonder if some bulbs have a higher/quicker fail rate. Example: does an 9003 last longer than a 9006. Most of my experience with these isnt with the liberty, so I haven't used any of the dual filaments bulbs.

I run the regular silverstars. I think I may change to the ultras on my next change. At first one side was going out every 6 months, but this last pair has lasted almost a year. Like Tom, I probably just jinxed myself

I have not changed any bulbs on the jeep but the lisence plate one so far. I do think that the headlight neeurd to be brighter however I'm not keen on any silverstars. I installed them in the Outback I had before the Jeep. Yeah they are great, bright, and very white light. The downsides were 2x the price and they only lasted 9 months in the outback before the low beam filiment burnt out. I know how to install them and not to touch the glass so that wasn't it. I swithed back to the Xtravision bulbs and lived with them not being as bright but cheaper and lasted longer. The silver and Ultra stars burn hotter that's why they dont last.

If there were an afordable HID option I would think about that

You are either super lucky or dont drive at night much.

One factor I think killed them in the outback is the daytime running lights. it would use the low bean at 50% so the light was all the entire time the engine was running.

To the original question

it depends on where/how you drive

if you're running around town/areas with streetlights and just need something that identifies you as a moving vehicle - they're probably not that big a deal.

now if you're out in the boondocks and would like some extra warning before the herd of whitetails run across the road - well - repairing one deer strike can pay for a lot of headlights....

they light up the road - but don't expect them to last as long

(I use Ultra's)
