I heard that the Elsbet SVO sytem is one of the best out there and an option for the Liberty exists.

That is the difference with going on things that you "hear" and doing actual research.

Or could be the heater core is the cause of the coolant leak. At $500 I would just keep adding coolant for as long as I could as well. SVO system then slowly plugs up all the oil passages in the engine...

I think that the SVO goes into the fuel rail and not in the oil.

Aren't there a few CRDs being driven on SVO? I know of one in texas that has been on SVO for more than 20,000 miles.
When SVO goes into the fuel, it gets into the engine oil by partially combusting and washing into the rings and the sump. Then it plugs oil passages and blocks flow when it polymerizes.

SVO and the CRD do not mix.

$4650 for a KJ with 150k miles and a blown engine. Diesels really hold there value. My CRD had 72k miles when I purchased it last summer. It took me 5 weeks to convert it to run on SVO. I used 3 tanks of diesel before I converted it. Now it has 81k miles and loves burning the grease.

I think I am going to do the EHM and route the hose along the 5/8 heater hose to goes to the FPHE for the Veg Oil heat. That way it should never freeze up.

On a properly done SVO setup this does not happen. But yes, polymerization in the oil is a real concern.

Off original topic, but how do you prevent it? Better metering to ensure ~100% combustion? How WOULD one avoid that in an electronic common-rail like the CRD?

Good veg oil, proper switchover, complete shutdown purging, frequent oil changes and Hot! Hot! Hot! oil injection.

The SVO needs to be heated, the hotter the better, its a pretty viscous fluid, so the closer the viscosity to #2 @ 72f the better. Generally you want to heat the fluid to AT LEAST 180F, 220F would be preferable, but its hard to get that much heat transfer to take place with even with a fully warmed up engine.

The fuel system needs to be completely purged prior to shutdown, with dyed diesel it is easy to know when the return fuel is no longer SVO, or is mostly not SVO. John Deere is developing a multi-use sensor, one function of which is a electric viscometer. Ideally a "smart" system would compare the incoming viscosity and the outgoing viscosity to verify that full switchover/purge had occured of the SVO at shutdown. Integrating this system into the calibration would also allow the ECU to dynamically change the current calibration file based off of running a mixture of fuels(such as during shutdown or startup of the SVO system).

Additionally there are certain load points where running SVO is problematic - no load conditions being one(either at idle or rated speed).

SVO does best under high load higher RPM than it does idle - having a system that can quickly and dynamically update the fuel mixture and calibration based on engine load and speed is preferred.

To date nothing on the market comes close to this ability, though elsbett does have a few refinements that help.

My opinion of elsbett systems is that while they may seem quality, if any part fails good luck getting support(from germany) and good luck getting a replacement. We had our high capacity elsbett SVO fuel pump fail, and were unable to obtain a warrantee replacement from them (this coming from a research use with little use and only on virgin SVO). Thing just upped and quit - died electrically. Nothing wrong with the geared part of the pump, but rather the motor elsbett picked to use with it.

Tried to price out the motor its self for a replacement, came to around $400-500 for just the motor from all the vendors we checked.
