Happy new year everybody.

I have a 2008 KK Sport 4x4 with the 6-speed manual transmission and about 37,000 miles. No aftermarket performance parts are installed and all service is up-to-date.

A couple of days ago the engine began surging whenever I attempted to change gear. It does not matter if I am upshifting or downshifting. If I depress the clutch - foot completely off the accelerator - the engine surges and the RPMs shoot up by about 200 or 300, before slowly dropping and allowing me to shift into gear.

There are no warning lights displayed and I have no carpet interference or debris by the accelerator pedal.

I have an appointment at the dealership later this week but would appreciate your input.

Thank you in advance.

Corzo -

Are you under warranty?
Does this happen when the engine is cold and brought up to operating temprature?
Is the surge intermittent at all?

Thanks for the quick responses.

Two days ago it was intermittent. We are at freezing ambient temperatures but I usually let the vehicle warm up to operating temperature before driving it.

The general warranty expired at 36,000 miles, but if I am lucky this is covered by the powertrain warranty. This is why I am looking for suggestions, just in case the dealer informs me that I will be paying out-of-pocket.

sorry i couldnt find what i thought i was looking for. you could always try to leave the battery unhooked overnight maybe, not sure if it does anything on newer vehicles. some things to check for are vacuum leaks and a dirty throttle body.

DirtyKK beat me too it - vacuum leaks or a dirty throttle body. My first guesses beyond that would be a faulty TPS or MAP sensor.

HTH!

Thank you for the suggestions. I will post the fix, once established.

try this

Here's the procedure:

- Turn on your key, wait for the lights to go out (on the dash)

- Press you throttle all the way down. I find it works best when don't briskly but not stomping on it. ( go slow on both steps on a second try)

- Let it up, as soon as you touch bottom. I let her up fast but I don't side step the pedal.

- Turn off your ignition. crank it up and drive

Hrogi,

I tried your reset recommendation yesterday morning and the vehicle ran like normal, all day. Thank you.

Checked for vacuum leaks, prior, but did not detect any, so still have no clue as to the cause of the problem.

I have an auto, but mine did this for quite a long time. Random days. Sometimes more than once in one day, other times maybe once in a month. Dealer kept doing free throttle body cleanings over and over. Eventually their answer was "we can't replicate it, so we can't diagnose it." And then came the end of my warranty. Soooooo, whatever.

Never found the cause.
