Ok, so I'm doing the last trip out west to Indiana. As mentioned in a previous post, I am moving (after being gone for almost 7 years) back to Evansville, IN. I've got my 5x8 trailer from Uhaul packed and the Jeep is packed as well. Now, I've done this roadtrip probably a dozen times, but always cut through the WV mountains to shave a few hours off. This time though, I do NOT want to go anywhere NEAR mountain roads.

Soooo, I'm hoping someone here can tell me what is the best route from Lorton, VA to Evansville, IN that is JUST interstate, and as FLAT AS POSSIBLE.

Thanks guys. Leaving tomorrow morning. I'll keep checking this as I go along.

BTW: Here is the route that has been suggested so far -

Never been between either of them places to give you a good route. Good luck and stay safe on your travels though.

I used to drive a drill rig from Savannah, IL to Baltimore a lot (19 hours straight). I know RTE. 70 goes from Baltimore to Indianapolis. Once you get past Pittsburgh and into Ohio it starts to level off some but it I don't think any route will be flat going out that way. Until you hit Indiana, then you won't be able to find a small hill. :ROTFL:

Very long, boring drive. Stay awake and stay safe. If you do get on 70, there are A LOT of truckers from what I remember.

Nevermind my last post. I just looked at your map and you won't go anywhere near 70. Probably for the best. Unfortunately though, I don't think you're going to find too many flat roads going out that way. Even in that part of Indiana. Good Luck.

Guess you need to stay in Lortan as there is no way to get from there to Evansville without some hills, unless you take a way around trip. Pulling a trailer across 64 is no picnic for sure but its the straightest way. Even going 70 over to 79 is hills/mountains
could go up to 70 and across through Columbus and down that way , not much farther if any and the same driving time, once you get into Ohio just hills nothing major

Good luck on the trip

Taking your guys' opinions, and my experiences on 70, I will take this one instead:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source= ... e=UTF8&z=7

I've been on 70 before, and it's beautiful for trailering. No mountains really, just boring. It adds another hour, but it will most likely save gas. I will only be doing 60 the whole way anyways. The trailer itself is light, but I have had to fill it and the Jeep to the brim. Yes, I made sure to load the heaviest stuff in the front. None of this is ideal, but it's the best I can do. Wish me luck. I will report in when I get there if I can remember to.

I was going to suggest 70 as well since you're so close to dc/pitts

68/79/64 takes you through hazard co. i believe which is some rough rollin when the ice is down, when I came up to ohio from NC it was the lead end of that blizzard that hammered DC last year, me and 6 rigs out of ohio rode it all the way to winston salem on the way back and it stayed downright squirrelly the whole way, I could see the headlights of the rig behind me in my drivers side window several times on the way down out of the peaks

ya should do fine on 70, they keep it up pretty good

70 will not only save ya gas but it'll save ya some of the tolls of the more northern routes that some prefer

be safe, keep the extra rollers behind the primaries

My apologies for not replying to this when I got in, I had no internet. But yes, I did make it. 70 was a breeze. Alot of low incline hills that seemed to last forever, but otherwise it was all fine. Smooth sailing. No weather. 8) I did take pics along the way, but there was nothing monumental. Just typical scenery.
