Good Morning,

i have been offered an OME lift available now ( otherwise it's a 12 Week wait) and the compositions is as following:

Front springs 926
Front struts 130
Rear springs 947
Rear shocks 132

I am not looking to fit a Winch at the moment, but I will be fitting Boiler top plates & 1 or 2 rear top isolators at the back and Hockey puck as but stops (if required).

I was initially looking to fit these:
Front Springs 790 for CRD
Front Struts 131
Back Springs 948
Back Shocks L132
(might have been a bit Over Kill but, better safe than sorry).

Would I end with the same lift hight in the end with what I am being offered?

thank you,

Fil.

For a CRD those would not be a good idea IMO. The 926 front springs are only rated at 375 lbs were as the stock CRD springs are rated at 410 lbs.
I would wait if it was me, no use going to lower rated springs
The rears are less as well, the rear shocks are the stock lenghth ones not the 132Ls you need for a lifted Liberty
so NO on the whole kit
The place trying to sell that to you should even know better!

Huh? I thought there was only ONE length front shock you could get for a KJ? Did I get lied to?

Also, with my OME springs in the front...you do NOT want any extra spacers. My CVs are at max angle as it is with the springs alone.

Same length, different valving.

The 130's are for use with the stock spring rate.

Interesting....You have 790's?

Max angle is full droop...........

Thank you for your VERY quick reply. I guess I won't be buy that lift.
I am having a real problem here in the UK to find a suspention lift for my KJ CRD ( if I was Gas a bit easier). I have emailed a couple of other distributers here & in France (more CRD's over there) & Old Man Emu Australia to see if I can source one with the correct items. So let's see what comes back.
I guess if I decided to go with Bilstein/Koni I would still have the problem of finding the correct OME springs.
Any other suggestions?

Fil.

Heck, there's a whole bunch of manifacturers out there, with different prices and quality.

If you really really cannot wait to lift your KJ, you can pick up a set of H&R +40mm springs for little as 230 Euros. (Ebay )

KONI shocks are pricy....you could do all Bilstein.

Tony,
So H&R +40MM springs, would thay go with the Bilstein strut & Shocks? most of all would they be stong enough for the CRD? what lift would I end up with more or less?

Jinstall has them on his '05+ CRD:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=51044

Any shock combo would work with this, he did it with KONI's, but with Bilstein's or whatever it would work too imo.

Tony,

thank you for that, I had missed that topic. Do you know what is the exact part number I should order for the Bilstein strut front & shocks at the back? would then be long enough with the extended Coils? I think this might be easier and quicker to get hold of compare to OME for me over here.

Look on JBA's page, there are all the part numbers for all kinds of Bilstein shocks.

http://jeepinbyal.com/prod-BILSTEIN___H ... t-672.aspx

http://jeepinbyal.com/prod-BILSTEIN___H ... r-677.aspx

So, it's

Front. F4-BE5-D916-HO
Rear F4-BE5-6458-H7

I'm running the Bilstein front shocks with OME 790 springs and nothing else. In my opinion, the shocks are slightly too short for the springs. I know that all KJ front shocks are the same length. Bottom line is, somebody really needs to make a front shock that's 1 or 2 inches longer. When I go over railroad tracks, hit a rough spot in the road, go over a speed bump, or something else like that... I get a loud THUNK noise and what is happening is the shocks are topping out. There is more spring than there is shock and the shocks run out of travel before the OME springs do. This has to be hard on the shocks, not to mention to upper strut mounts.

If I had the ARB bumper, it would sag my front end some and the problem would go away a little bit.

LibertyCRD, there are some things not quite right in your problem discription.

The OME 790 springs are a little longer then the stock ones, but a lot thicker. So you would get spring binding before the shock tops out. KJ uses coilovers on the front.

1" or 2" longer shocks for the front.....Imagine your front tire drooping 2" more then stock lenght. Your tierod would bend or snap off, your inner and outer CV's would explode, the coilover (aka strut) would contact the chassis etc.

The 'thump' you hear could be a worn bushing on the LCA. Or spring / UCA contact. You running stock or JBA's? (I suppose you do have extended bumpstops to prevent tire rub?)

All my joint ends, etc. are fine. This started immediately after the EMU installation and everything is VERY tight, trust me. The shocks are just not long enough for the springs. It works...but it doesn't work as well as it should. We had to REALLY compress the springs a lot to get the threaded end of the shock piston to go through the top plate and bolt down. This tells me that clearly the KJ could use longer shocks.

This is also why I say I wouldn't run any spacers at all. The CV joints are already at the max angle I'd run them at on a daily basis.

The compression you had to do to get the topplate on is called pre-tension.

All coilovers and struts have this. You need to do this to pre-load the spring otherwise you'll bounce all over the place.

I have fitted several OME kits on KJ's, so has Tommudd and so have many many others. If this was a structural OME problem then it's weird only you have a 'cloink' while nobody else does.

So, imo your problem comes from something else and I put my money on your UCA's. Check if you see damage on the paint of the coils, at the hight of the 2nd coil.

That's where normally the UCA hits the spring.

And if you think our CV's are at the max...then mine would have had to explode a long time ago.

I know I have a Gasser but you should not be having issues you are only running the springs and nothing else on your CRD.
Tony is right on the compressing the springs, your old ones I am sure were easier to remove since they were weaker and worn out.
Wish you were a little closer I'd be more than happy to come help you solve the problem.
I'd take a pic of my CV angles but you'd walk around for the next three days with your mouth wide open! :ROTFL:

Hi,
back again with more questions...

Looks like I might have found some OME shocks at last in the UK, for sure I have found the front one's I need N131, but for the back I have found N132 not N132L but also N134!!, What are these N134? are they N132L? does any one know?

For the coils I am waiting for an answer back for the 790 & 948 in the morning. But if they don't have them Could I fit the H&R coils instead? will they work okay?

Fil.

The front strut model number is NS131. Don't touch rear N134 they are for stock length unlifted KJ only. Good luck - keep hunting for the N132L or perhaps a Bilstein rear for a Dakota/Durango/YJ.

OME shocks are valved quite soft to my liking and I don't see the need of using them if you are not going to use their springs.

I didn't use them even with their springs Image

Tony,

for what concerns OME, I have found the coils & the front struts here in the UK, but the NS132L back shocks I can't find them even in Germany. I am starting to think maybe go Bilstein all round for the shocks (H&R coils or OME coils) problem still is finding the right back ones!!
