What about the Reverse ??

Other than glasspaks wearing out after a few years, I think the $175 in direct SAVINGS clearly benefits the cheap old glasspak.

I'm Retired Military as well. :D Maybe the guys that bought the Expensive Aeros are Retired Officers, but us cheap azzed Retired NCOs like to SAVE $$$ !! (JUST TEASIN' GUYS!!  )

Anyone have sound Clips yet of a Aero and/or Glasspak on a CRD ??

Also, what are the MPG figures after these muffler upgrades ??

Retired OFFICER? Excuse me, but my parents were MARRIED when I was born, and I preferred the bottle in front of me to the frontal lobotomy!

Well, as far as MPG figures - saw upwards of 32 mpg 75 mph interstate driving on the trip to TX with decent #2 dino and B20. As far as the combined commute daily drive, best previous on #2 dino was 22 MPG, now hitting around 25 MPG on #2 dino. Sunday going to switch back to B20 and see what I get on the normal commute, best previous with B20 was 24 and change.

Ok, so I have a stupid question. Does this thing have an intake and exhaust sode or does it not matter? There weren't any instructions in the box and I didn't notice anything stamped onto the muffler itself.

Anything else special? I want to have all my ducks in a row when I go to the muffler shop next week.

Yes, there's an inlet and an outlet. Their web site shows them, but on mine it was pretty easy to see the "airfoil" thing in the inlet side. The perforations on the inside look like you'll be putting it in backwards (relative to the way I think most glasspacks are supposed to go in), but as long as you can see the big, shaped ring that is the airfoil, that'll be your inlet.

Mine had 3 rings on the 2.5" outlet pipe section that goes toward the rear of the vehicle. That information was also on the instruction sheet they left out of your box.

Also on the instruction sheet, it says that for best performance to try and get 12 inches of straight pipe on the inlet AND outlet sides of the AT. If you count the inlet and outlet connectors on the AT as straight pipe, you can do it with about an inch to play with. Of course, this is counting everything aft of the cat (including the 2 bolt flange) as straight pipe. It's not exactly straight, but better than that 90 degree bend at the tailpipe.

Basically, if you can get 12 inches between the BODY of the AT and the 90 degree bend in the tailpipe, the front part will take care of itself.

If you reuse the two bolt flange and attached pipe off the stock muffler, make sure the installer knocks out the inner 2" diameter pipe before he welds it onto the AT. Basically, DC welded a 2 1/2" pipe onto the flange, and then rammed the 2" inlet pipe from the stock muffler up inside it. Beats the heck out of me why they did it that way.

Stock muffler is offset on the outlet, so if you reuse the stock tailpipe it will have to be rotated in toward the center of the vehicle to mate up with the AT. There's enough play in the hangers and clearance that this shouldn't be a problem, as long as you don't mind the outlet of the tailpipe being angled to one side. Just make sure the cat is centered in it's hangers when they line everything up for welding.

That explains something I saw my installer do - after removing the flange behind the cat, he cut off the stock pipe right at the flange and welded a 2.5" section of muffler pipe right to the flange itself. I didn't get to see the inside of thestock pipe on the flange. Then he installed the flange and welded the new pipe to the aeroturbine.

Ok....I know I procrastinated but I had some unexpected bills come up. It's time to have the glasspack installed!!!

I'll have my wife drive my truck or my TJ tomorrow and I'll steal her CRD. I'll just drop it off at the muffler shop in the morning, and by lunch it should have a Glasspack!!

I'll post an update afterwards.

Ok....just scheduled it for tomorrow at 11:00.

The local shop will provide the glass pack and install it for a grand total of $45.00!

He's only got an 18" length glasspack in stock....any opinions on this length?

No ideas - that's about the same length as the Aero-turbine. I'm interested in how it sounds and if your spool up time is better.

Well, I drove the CRD to work today. As soon as i get a chance to sneak away I'll run to muffler shop. I was going to go at lunch but we have a hurricane Rita meeting to attend. I'll try and sneak over there afterwards.

I think it'll produce the same results as the expensive mufflers. It's just a straight through 4" tube with fiberglass lining.

We'll see if my 45 dollar investment pays off.

I'll keep you up to date.

I just had one done the other day. There is a deep tone or rumble but it is very subtle. Barely noticeable. The turbo sound is loud like a vacuum sound. Not much lag if any, great performance so far, worth the 60$ in my opinion.

I'll let you know about mileage I'm taking a 1000 mile trip this weekend. So far I'm having too much fun spooling up the turbo to hear the sound. Like weined said you can barely hear it over the engine noise.

I pulled a trailer about 1500 lbs and averaged 26 mpgs over the trip around town about 22, so maybe 1 mpg increase all around.
