Currently the liberty/nitro line is scheduled for 9 down weeks this year. Whether its because of slow sales or to retool for a new product I can't say. IMHO, if panda production comes to the US, it would make sense to build it at the liberty plant. It is chryslers newest, best plant. Fiat big on demmings principles, and the liberty plant always scores well with the harbor report. Im thinking if Fiat is putting their nameplate on a product they would want the product built in the best factory avaliable.

Also, Fiat just negotiated with their italian union to put a jeep product in one of their factories. Which jeep product it will be, idk.

I posted earlier in the thread about being worried about jeeps future, but after doing some research online, I think jeep knows what they're doing. I can't believe that jeep will eliminate an entry level, capable suv like the liberty. It may get replaced, but I can't believe they'd eliminate it. It's too big of market. I also stated the Fiat Panda doesn't look very beefy. Which for those that aren't aware, internet talk is to make a jeep out of the fiat panda cross, Google jeep phoenix. I've been watching some YouTube videos of the panda, and its no pro rock crawler, but it definitely gets down the trail. And the 40+ mpgs can't be bad. A micro 4x4 suv seems like a great market for jeep, since no one really offers one in the US. I'm looking forward to see where jeep goes in the next two years, I think it might be promising, but its still too early to tell. I'm not throwing in the towel yet.

"Jeep’s new C-segment entry, replacing both the Patriot and Compass. This model will probably help spawn a sister Fiat vehicle (although the Fiat will be more ‘car-like’) to replace the Fiat Sedici (Suzuki SX4). Based on the C-evo platform."

"Based on the D-evo (stretched C-evo) platform, this new model replaces the Liberty. (Editor’s note: This model would probably be a Jeep design using Fiat dimensions and basic architectures.)"

The Liberty has made a positive name for itself and is widely known. So why would Jeep want to get rid of the “Liberty” nameplate? Answer: From what I’ve read, it seems that the 2013 “Liberty” is getting enough of a makeover that Jeep feels the need to change it’s name. I wouldn’t say the Liberty name will be gone, but I haven’t found much positive talk about keeping it either. Is the KJ built on a car platform? Because I’ve read that the new 2013 “Liberty” will be on a all new car platform.

Well, one could refer to the unibody as a 'car' platform...

Now here's an idea... Just throwing it out there.
In an effort to stream-line the Jeep line-up and to expedite and production and sales I suggest to Chrysler the following:

I suggest that they have three basic platforms.

At the Jefferson North Assembly in Detroit, MI

Jeep Grand Cherokee would continue production in its familiar fashion.
Notable exceptions would include more basic package availability.
Manual windows, locks, no cruise, no a/c, etc.
Engine availability (1) turbo diesel 4cyl, (1) V6 (baseline), (3) V8 {1 being supercharged}
transfer-case NV242
Priceline $28k-$60k.

Toledo North Assembly in Toledo OH

Jeep Liberty would cease production under the KK platform. The KK platform would be re-bodied by the Jeep Renegade concept, and a four and two door hatchback (think AMC Eagle). By utilizing lighter materials and lower roof line, would trim a lot of weight and excess fat from these vehicles. Trim levels would include basic vinyl and crank windows to trim levels similar to the current KK Limited standards.
Engine availability (1) 4cyl (baseline), (1) turbo diesel 4cyl, (1) V6
These vehicles should not be trail rated.
Both Patriot and Compass would cease production.
transfer-case NV142, NV242
Jeep Renegade Priceline $28k-$45k.
Jeep Eagle Priceline $15k-$32k.

Toledo Supplier Park in Toledo OH

The Jeep Wrangler JK (or the next evolution) Would see the most significant changes. The Wrangler would become the main "base" vehicle for the Jeep fleet. The width, front clip, and basic body structure would remain the same throughout the line-up. Changes in minor body retooling and drivetrain availability would be the most significant.
2dr Wrangler, {conv. 95.4" wheel base}
4dr Liberty, {95.4" wheel base} (think Dakar concept)
4dr Wrangler, {conv. 116" wheel base}
4dr Commander, {116" wheel base} (tin top 4dr wrangler)
2dr Gladiator, {126" wheel base} (Half-cab LWB pick-up)
2dr DK, {126" wheel base} (tin top 4dr Commander)
4dr Gladiator Crew, {126" wheel base} (the SUT version)

Engine availability (1) 4cyl (baseline), (1) turbo diesel 4cyl, (1) V6, (2) V8
2 AT transmissions {1 HD}, 1 5-speed (baseline), 1 HD 6-speed
transfer-case NV231, NV241, NV242
Axle combo availability Dana 30/35, Dana 30/44, Dana 44/44, Dana 44/60

2dr Wrangler Priceline $15k-$30k
4dr Liberty Priceline $20k-$35k
4dr Wrangler Priceline $20k-$35k
4dr Commander Priceline $25k-$50k
2dr Gladiator Priceline $18k-$38k
2dr DK Priceline $20k-$40k
4dr Gladiator Crew Priceline $23k-$43k

Packages available threw-out
Rubicon (Awesomeness)
Sahara edition (hot desert conditions)
Laredo (luxury)
Brute (towing)
Fargo (extreme cold) :ROTFL:

just an idea...
BTW Chrysler I'd be interested in a consulting job LOL!

Maybe the Liberty name might hold on?????????

"The next Jeep Liberty will use the same key dimensions as new D class (midsized) cars in 2013. The Liberty could be a “real Jeep” that just shares key dimensions with mid-sized cars and crossovers (but this is apparently not as likely as a version that is not quite as off road capable, though still Trail Rated — as Compass and Patriot can be). The Nitro is not expected to continue." http://www.allpar.com/model/upcoming.html

Nope, just crickets.... :dead:

The Jeep Phoenix! Wow! Now we can get a golf car with 4WD!

They start with the Compass car platform (Caliber) with the worse drivetrain you can find on a 4WD rig! CVT $uck big time but It's the new girl Jeep! Before that those soccer mom and secretary use to buy a Liberty since it was 'Cute' and small like the Rav4, the Suzuki Grand Vitara or the KIA sportage.... Read "Small SUV"

Now new player came.... Outlander, Forester,Highlander, CRV, Rogue, Tiguan...on and on.....The KK was to 'beefy" for them, they don't need a 5000 pds tow capacity gas ungry beast anymore...So let's bring the Phoenix they say! Make a test, show some pictures of this golf car to your spouse and ask her what she think, I bet the first thing getting out of is mouth will be "That's cute!" and in this world "cute" make sales! Good price make sales! Fuel economy make sales!

So for $10,500 you got a "cute" 4WD and over 50 Mpg with a Jeep badge?....Try to be on the first page of the long long list of preorder...... Good Luck!

Here's an option for those who think Jeeps future offerings may become mall crawlers. Available diesel. With International and Mahindra joining forces.... ya never know.
