Long story short, bear with me guys.

A while ago, I had to change out my emergency brake pads(Due to them falling off and rattling around inside my rotor  ) Should have raised a couple warning flags for what was to come.......

Anyways, I changed out the pads/shoes(whatever you want to call them) and started having issues with my e-brake hanging up when I released it. (Found this out with some toasty wheels) So I figured the e-brake springs needed replaced and replaced them. Same thing happening...... :banghead:. It does unlock when I back up a little bit but something is still hanging up in there. Upon further inspection, which I am still not sure about, the mechanical device that the cable is connected to on the back side of the rotor does not seem to move freely(we had to use some pb blaster to break it loose and knock it back with a hammer to replace the springs) So I am thinking that little device(which I have no clue what it is called) is the problem, thing is I can't find it listed anywhere since I have no clue what it is called. :juggle:

Anybody know by any chance what the heck I am talking about? :?

Yeah, I know what you are talking about, but first a question:

Did you check the E brake cables?

If those are ok, then free up the whatshamacallits. (pb blaster, move them back and forth untill they move freely.

(I think E brake actuator lever would be the correct name for the whashamacallit :D)

It's #3 that goes through rubber #13 and connects to lever #4, right?

I looked at the cables some, probably look into it more this weekend. The cables do move up to the point of the "whatshamacallits" which don't seem to move very much.

Any auto store sell those things?

Edit: Yes, number 3 and 4 are the parts which seem to hang up.

Clean those up, then your troubles are over.

Hopefully that's all they need.

Are they easy to get out?

Also, the side that is hanging up seems to have some play in it. Whenever the brake is engaged it kinda pushes out/away from the mount a tiny bit. The other side is solid and doesn't move.

Edit: Any chance you can link me to that sight that has that diagram?

Thanks!

Use the slow download button, then it won't cost you anything.

Cool, I also found it on mopar's official parts site with part descriptions.

The self adjuster is I believe the part you are refering too. Last time I did rear brakes I took PB Blaster and a wire brush to it. Got it cleaned up and looking new once I got it apart.

Was it easy to get apart? I plan on tackling this Saturday if all goes as planned.

If memory serves me right it looked like a bolt with a nut on it. Just cleaned the threads out with a wire brush and slowly worked it apart. When I got it apart i sprayed it down with pb blaster and let it sit for a few minutes and than cleaned it real well with a wire wheel.

Just an update. Those "whatchamacallits" were fused together with rust!

I had to beat them apart with a hammer! After that I let them soak in PB blaster for quite a while and then wire wheeled them until all the rust was gone. So my e-brake lever actually disengages now!

Thanks to all who helped!
