JK-Forum.com is the reason Im making this post. IT SUCKS! You cannot mention another forum in post or a link to any site unless its to a supporting vendor site. Those are just a couple minor things. Im mainly on there for some previous research, buyin used parts and the local threads. Ive barely got a hundred post on that forum and will not be returning, ever.

I just tried joining SigForum.com and they wont allow you to register with a hotmail or yahoo email account. Dont know the reasoning behind that but when i tried registering with my gmail i was denied also. Guess i wont be joining that forum, all i wanted to do was hit the classifieds for some mags and sights.

My favorite forum of all time was my old car forum which i was a member for almost 6 years. The owners/admin had a hissy fit when a couple moderators talked crap and the owners shut the site down without warning. So much information went right out the window because the only forum left was like JeepKJ and just worthless.

I love forums. The social networks and plethora of information keeps me coming back. Lets hear your stories!

Brotherhood Of Catfishermen (BOC). It is run like a dictatorship and anyone saying anything negative or not singing the praises of the site are targeted for censorship and banning. I received an email from their founder stating that he was pulling links to my site from my profile and signature line because his site was not featured as prominently as a local site was in the links section of my website. I tried explaining that the reason was because my site is focused on a local river as was the other site, but he would not have it. He was acting as if he should have final say in how I run my site! To top it off he was calling me Mark instead of Greg in every email. You would think he could take the time to get my name right if it was such an important issue to him. Upon asking for removal from his site I recieved several nasty emails and finally had to resort to becoming a nuisance to get myself banned and my account deleted. They are still using several of my articles and postings in their "tech" section and pretending they don't know who posted the info. There are a lot of good fishermen there, but the Admin and Mods make it a terrible place to freely exchange ideas and information. If you catfish avoid this site unless you want to stand in a straight line, nod, and keep your mouth shut like a good little boy.

Classicbroncos.com is a great site...if you have a classic Bronco. I was over there for years until both my Broncos caught fire. I have bad luck with that sort of thing. Two work trucks have caught fire on me as well.

The people over on Club Frontier were also always real helpful and nice as well.

I am not on a computer that much so I haven't been to either site in awhile though since I no longer have those vehicles.

Jeepin.com is great.....as much as I like lost and as nice as the people here are lost is severely lacking in a sense of humor at times, though perhaps thats one of the reasons it stays so civil here.

If you have a minute and didn't follow what happened or if you never go to JKC, (or if you are one of those that think it's all my fault...) here's my story:

A few years ago LOST was more like Pirate4x4, some rough elements here and not (stricktly IMO) a fun place to hang around being a NOOB at JEEP or KJ's in particular. So I just lurked around here and became very active on JKC since the whole feel of that board was friendlier and more to my liking. After a while I asked the owner if I could have a Spanish section on his board and he made that happen. They made me moderator of that section and all my buddies joined up and we created a pretty good KJ forum with good info. (translated some stuff, howto's etc, and things I learned from LOST/JKC)

As this thing evolved we kinda got cramped in the space we were given. I wanted bigger, better. But within the same forum. The owner of JKC then did a disapearing act..so did most of the admins and mods.

In the end there were only two moderators running the show. Slowly the forum seemed to die. I hated that. So I asked if I could be an Admin to have more power over the board and be able to ad forums and change things around. It so happened. I took that 'task' way to serious, up to a point where I forgot that I didn't own JKC. I was so into it that I may have done or said things that were not apropriate. Sorry about that. But I still like to think that my influence on JKC lifted it from the near grave and it got better with an active mod crew and added forums (SFA/JPOTM/etc, ofcourse I ow many thanks to Yellowcoyote, Dave, Hoosierjeeper and others for helping me)

Anyway, one dreadful night I was working on the layout of the Spanish section and by mistake deleted the whole thing...yikes.

That may sound really stupid but you've probably never seen the Vbulletin Admin panel. I asked for a backup....which didn't exist. The owner never bothered to make them anymore for about a year...(I send him text messages on his cell, I PM'ed and E-mailed 4000 times) only to hear 3 months later that there was no back up and that the only thing he could do was have his provider run a backup that was 3 months old...(!)..........and that he wasn't going to do that since to much would be lost. (now if you would have responded right away and dind't leave me hanging for 3 months than that would have been a good solution...)

I only got that answer after I told him I had it with the waiting and I started my own forum, with the help of my friends we were able to get a lot of stuff back from Google cache which we placed on jeepkj.es...(yeah, I know, looks like I copied the URL but I bought that a long time ago when there were still plans to make it part of Jeepkj.com. Since we are getting more and more KK owners on there I also own jeepliberty.es and the url will therefore change soon, the name of the forum hase already been changed to that)

Besides all that, I still didn't give up on JKC and kept going as lead admin and kept trying to be online 24/7. But I wasn't as motivated as I used to be and I one day just couldn't do it anymore. So I gave up the admin job.

Then suddenly....the owner sold it. Without asking us (read:me) first. That new owner changed everything for the bad, turning the forum into spamgalore, there's ad's everwhere, even within the text of the posts/pictures.

As you can imagine (or not, maybe I got way to addicted to this forum) I got very upset about this. People spend countless hours on this webforum to keep it alive and therefore there was something to sell. The former owner forgot all about us when someone offered him a handfull of $.....

Sorry for the long story...in the end I realized it doesn't matter. All this is only one click away from being deleted forever and no one will cry about it. The world will not come to an end without JKC or LOST.

LOST was really the first forum I've spent much time on - the other Jeeps ones weren't as impressive - and I think when LOST finally decided that they need to ban some folks - even if they were regular posters - it did help the atmosphere - (you can have a lot of posts if you only make sarcastic comments and never add anything positive).
so overall it made LOST stronger.

I've been really unimpressed with the changes in KJCountry - spams and they want more information.. Why? to help target more spam? - No Thanks.


but forums overall are defendant on the Admins and Moderators - if they're active, involved and stay on topic - it helps a lot.
however if the Owner treats it as his personal fiefdom - it fails, or only attracts those with identical views of the world.

Well, my first favorite forum was JeepKJ...got banned once, came back and everyone seemed to hate me. Site went down the drain, got fed up with all the BS from it being sold and going crappy and a few bad apples in the bunch made it worse. Got fed up, argued(read: trolled) the site for my own entertainment, got banned, didn't care. lol
Then there was LOST. Currently its my 3rd favorite forum. Still like the people, and even though I don't have a KJ I still like to give any insight I may have to help others. 2nd favorite, floridajeepers.net. So many fun people to talk to, a lot that I have met in person, plus everyone is willing to give any advice they have to give to help you out.

All the tech you can dream off, THOUSANDS of helpful people, and bunches of entertaining people to talk to. Spend most my time there just b/s-ing with everyone making iFriends. lol

I have always liked forums, I have joined forums for just about every type of vehicle that I have owned. So I swear I have been a member of at least 30 different forums. As a matter of fact I am still an Admin/ Staff Member on Zuwharrie even though I haven't owned a Suzuki in almost a year. I love that place and the people. When I got my first KJ back in 2008 I joined JeepKJ because it was the first KJ forum I found, I recently started visiting LOST as well looking for more KJ info. Zuwharrie has spoiled me though (we are like family) and I am still looking for that KJ forum that I can be a part of.

JK-Forum is like the matrix. Take the pill and wake up. I don't even visit the board except for the for sale sections. Purpose of a forum is to share info, when the owner of the board will ban you for mentioning a different forum (even if it is not jeep related) or a company that he doesn't like is BS. Imagine if you got banned from LOST for mentioning RRO!!! Then 2 weeks later if they become a sponsor they become the greatest company ever. Heck even this post here can get me banned there.

For my JK needs I spend my time over at JKOwners. Yes it's Pirate 4x4 owned, but the guys on the sight are 99% gtg and will help you out or answer any question. Just don't go on trolling and you'll be fine.

As far JeepKJ.com I walked away from the site a long time ago, every question was the same, with no semblance of any tech or forward progress. Almost the whole board is chit-chat. And now that 'Shaggy' has taken over...

Lost is the first forum I joined right after I bought the liberty in 2007. I have joined a couple of others since, jeep kj is one of them I still think I have less than 100 post there. Mainly just look for new members that are close to Kansas. (And for parts).Cherokee forum since I recently bought a XJ. I joined lost to figure out how to make my KJ capable of going off road and to meet people that I could wheel with. And with that I have met and wheeled with a lot of people from all over the country and made some great friends. And get to go to some of the best wheeling spots in the country. It has been a fun ride and that makes LOST my Favorite forum.

Tony is right on the JKJ thing. I remember that day...it crashed, then when it was back up....it was under new ownership.

I can understand why Bennett wanted to sell it (and I'm glad he decided to sell it, as I know he was rightfully busy with family)...but I wish he would asked us first. I wouldn't have bought it, but I really know Tony wanted it. I would've much preferred that. I'm not really angry at Shaggy, as it's not his fault that Bennett blindsided us.

The first forum I ever joined and was active on was TDIClub. I was a member there for almost 2 years (still am, technically, just not active) without ever owning a TDI, and it was a great experience. I never got flamed for not owning, since I was farming information and intending to buy. Then I came across a great deal on a CRD, and took the plunge into diesel ownership. I posted a couple times about it on TDIClub, and a member recommended LOST. I joined the same day and have never regretted it, also became a lifer and never regretted it. (That's a plug for any here who have not become lifers. What a pittance for supporting this forum.)

I joined JeepKJ when LOST crashed here about a year ago, but found it was more for off-topic stuff than anything else, so I never supported the site or got really active there. LOST felt like home. I've never really had a negative forum experience, I guess, but I liken it to how they train people to spot counterfeit money: give them stacks and stacks of the real thing for them to count, then start randomly slipping counterfeits in there. The money handlers become so used to the real thing that they immediately spot the fake.

I found LOST because of a search for a broken window regulator.
I joined LOST because I could come home from a hard days work, drink a beer and laugh my but off while learning everything I'd ever whant to know about my Jeep.
I stayed because of the great tech info,top notch diesel crew, and some way awesome wheeling, wrenching, and camping friends.

One by one teh funny started getting banned.
JT's gone.....dang, they ain't playing around.
Bird's gone.....that sucks, looks like I'm joining JKJ.
IC's gone.....oh wow, looks like I better tone it down bigtime.(this is the point where I started spending more time on JKJ and IFSJ)
Do I feel I'm any better than JT,IC,or Birdman?......Nope
Do I feel they were in any means "bad for LOST" or "counterfeit"?.....No more than I am.

Mabe Bennett didn't want to drag the whole thing out. Didn't want it, had someone ready to buy, he sold.Who knows? Only Bennett, and he aint talking. Yea it sucks that info got lost and all, but if your house burns down you build it back again.
Yea the changes(advertisments and all) are different and/or dumb, but only for the first week or so. Then you don't even notice it. It's the same folks hanging out in the RTT and some cool newbs.

What does JKJ have that LOST doesn't?.....A sense of humor.
