For sure I wouldn't take this bet. If I were the XJ guy I would just find an off camber situation and it would be over, or at best the Libby would have some serious body damage.

Fun thread, wish we would see more Liberty's wheeling out here.

What you are showing isn't even a Wrangler any more, name only , had so many mods thats beyond the point in which anyone has talked about here.

And not sure where you're from But I have seen 19 KJs on just one off roading trip
so they're out there.
As far as STOCK XJ-vs- STOCK KJ I would bet the KJ
and yes have owned both

There isn't anything like the wrangler stock. Specifically the jk. The tj rubicon is amazing but this jk is on a whole new level. It was better stock than my kj lifted.

Hi Tom, sorry got my X's and J's confused, my brain was still seeing the Wranger vs Liberty. I also had a "box jeep" boy they were ugly! But you could really modify them. Anyway, I am in agreement that the Liberty is more offroad suited "stock" than the XJ box jeep. Not the Wrangers however..

We are from Southern California and there is a SoCal Lost, just have not connected with them yet. I have never seen another lifted Liberty here, I know they are here but with so many people.......have to keep the eyes on the road.

Have a great day. Appreicate your experience and insite on the Liberty's.

Bob

In response to Grannysgoat's post, and subsequent replies....

It's still a wrangler..... LOL! Yeah, I've modded it a bit, but at heart it's still a wrangler. That's my rig, I just haven't uploaded an avatar yet. I've been blessed to have my parents get back into wheeling, and so we've been doing some mod's to his KJ (our old Libby).

My input for this discussion...
A libby will go anywhere a wrangler will go....if modded properly (i.e. sas, lockers, armor, BIG tires), and the willingness to accept body damage is there.
In stock form, I still believe an XJ would outwheel a KJ....stock flex and solid axle give the the XJ the nod.
The KJ totally amazed me when we hit up Truckhaven over new years. We took that little beast through every obstacle the other Jeeps went through minus 1 notch that was just ridiculous. Didn't get into a ton of rocks, that's to come...the limiting factor there will be tire size, but the Libby is so nimble, the lines available will be plenty :)
and for the original discussion of JK vs. KJ....well....sorry folks, but the JK will still outwheel a libby in stock form. It's just reality. Now....who's gonna get more attention on the trail? The KJ hands down. It's cool to be different...everyone has a wrangler and a lot of them get wheeled. A lot of people have Libby's too.....but only the select few enthusiasts will earn that "trail rated" badge.....those people deserve a lot of credit for getting outside of the box! :D

Anyway, happy trails all!

Jon (son to Grannysgoat)

I have a KK and a TJ. KK does not compare to TJ offroad. Tj does not compare to KK on road. They both have different purposes.

KJ or KK both are good if you consider wheeling like they shown in general public, driving through foot of snow, going on trails with 6" of mud etc. Once on big rocks and deeper holes, TJ does it lot better.

It is also a lot easier to use TJ for trails than Liberty in general. Its cheaper and easier to lift a TJ. With enough money sure you can make a KK or KJ a very capable rock crawler but with same money TJ will do better. Also the doors off top off with a wrangler give the ride a whole new meaning. But comes city traffic and I love KK. Better pickup, cornering, braking, all wheel disc etc with the capabilities unmatched by many SUVs.

Once my TJ is built up nice I will work on KK. For now KK is my DD and is going to stay stock. It would be fun to do a mild build on the KK. 31 tires, armor, bumpers, roof rack winch, a nice little camping trailer like the pikes peak one. :JEEPIN:

Same money a TJ will do better? MMM have to think that one over
Sure you can open any 4 wheel drive parts book and order everything you want, don't even have to be smart, just order what everyone else does.

But same money-vs- same money, have to disagree. Lifts / gears/ lockers/ tires all pretty much cost the same not that much difference really. Install would be a little higher on the front diff of the KJ but still resonable
Stock TJ Sport with skids -vs- stock KJ Sport with skids
I would of still taken mine. The TJ would of dragged just as bad as the KJ

There are so many wanna be TJs here in town that its gets funny really, people trying for the look but no clue at all

now a KK- vs- a TJ completely different story
