i got rear ended by a big Chevy and it pushed my spare wheel into the hatch. They said they just put a new hatch on, and bent the spare bracket back to how it was and that it is high strength steel and that i should be fine. I said well wont it be weak there if it gets hit again? I Feel they should put a new bracket on? any experience with this? they are not wanting to work with me..

I also have been told by these people that the gap under my taillights is "normal" and i refuse to believe them... It was not that big before this accident. Does anyone have what the measure mt of this gap should be?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Eric

Poor pictures to really see the gaps
but I have been rearended 4 times now and never had to replace anything
rear swaing gate has very small dent but unnoticable to the naked eye
With new swing gate you should be fine

thanks, the car was hit at around 20mph and the gate had a huge dent in it and couldn't close without pushing all your weight on it. Hopefully next time im hit the spare bracket wont just crumple.

Any measurements out there?

You refer to "They"
Who is "They"?
The body shop or the insurance company claims adjuster?
If it's the body shop, then take it to another body shop!
If it's claims adjuster, ask for a second opinion from another
claims adjuster.

THIS ^^^.....If you were rear ended then it most states it's considered the other guy's fault for not maintaining control of the vehicle. If the insurance co. is acting like they don't want to pay to fix it correctly, advise them you'll be consulting an attorney....

The Tail Lights look fine... The gap is normal...

If the picture of tire is after the people "fixed it" they either put the bracket on upside down, or it is still bent...

My Kj got rear ended last week. Bumper (pass) side was pushed in maybe 1/4.(I compared all the gaps to my daughters liberty) Spare tire holder(or mount inside rear door) was pushed in a 1/4 inch on the pass side. Trailer hitch punched a hole right through the front of car that hit it.Around 2,500 damage to the car . My door still works fine. And nobody could tell it was ever hit(except me) So that check just went into my pocket. And I'm with them If you are not satisfied with there work get a second opinion.(the bracket is upside down or still bent in the pic)

thanks everyone, it was about 1800 dollars for everything. IT just bothered me that they compared it to the other jeep liberty that was there that was 10 years old, and not a known spec. although they couldn't get me the right spare tire cover, they told me they don't make it anymore. and they refused to give me a new bracket and i finally gave up. When i got there the door was all pretty and painted nice but the door was terrible misaligned and i made them take it in the back and re align it, (the glass wouldn't even flip up!) So the search begins for a spare tire cover that was just as nice as the one i had. the pics are from right after it happened from my phone that's why they are so bad.

Thanks for all your help
