Service mgr just called and said he found the TSB 18-009-06 for 05 models and will do that on our CRD tomorrow. He said they are doing a '06 model now in the shop that hasn't even been sold. Apperantly they are not buzy and need work for some of the tech's to keep them busy. He said it was to be done even if P0504 was not showing for the brake switch. So I am to be there at 8 am tomorrow.

Well, while they did the software TSB, they still claim that the tranny TSB doesn't apply to my vehicle.

That means I'm going to pay a visit to the local tranny shop, both to have them verify what filter is installed, and also check out the tranny after finding out it ran for 8500 miles with the fluid 2 quarts low. At least I'll have put the issue to rest.

You guys are very very lucky, I've called the service manager twice, DC twice and to no avail, no one will even look at the tsb with me. I guess I have to have a problem, to which the tsb does not define, to get the update.

If your still under warranty. Drain out some of the tranny fluid and drive around. You'll have an issue in no time flat. You'll get a new tranny and new software at the same time :)

It sad that it has to come to something like that, most place dont want to deal with warraty work thats why they turn you away, they make more money by over charging folks outside of warranty...

I changed ECU's in my Neon and the dealer was nice enought to come out to the parking lot and flash the new VIN number into it for me so I could drive home.. It too bad we live in a world of nobody cares toady, its getting harder and harder to find people that care...

My dealership didn't hesitate to perform the TSB (see my other post).

I don't see what the big deal is. They get paid 1.9 hours of time, and all they need to do is hook up the tool, start the process, walk away - then do it again for the tranny. My dealership brought me in same-day.

The reason why this one is listed as a "do it no matter what" is probably because it will prevent failures and save them money in the long run...

But some dealerships seem to think that a TSB cannot be "perform even if not needed".

Essentially that is a recall, but recalls cause lots of bad press and expense when a "perform at next service" is just as good....

Hmm. My build date is listed as 05-05. then I checked the MDH which is 051621. So I'm guessing mine was built on the 16th? Seems awfully close to the cutoff. Mitch, does the updated TSB still reference the same build-by date?

I'm at 9k miles with no problems save the tranny filter TSB.

Updated TSB, 18-009-06, is for ALL '05 CRD's regardless of build date.

Engine is quieter, especially at cold startup. Throttle seems more responsive, little quicker on accel/takeoff. Can't feel shifts into 4th/5th/Lockup now, have to be looking at the tach and listening to the engine to tell. With OD Off, can't even hear when it goes into 3rd Lockup at 38 mph. Performs almost as smooth as the same tranny in the '04 Dakota I had. And so far, in 2 days of driving, doesn't seem to have adversely affected fuel economy either.

Just came back from a 120 mile round trip for my 49 Cetane B10 fuel and I must echo the same words here. The CRD seemed to have more snap to take off's and passing, smoother shift's and torque converter lock-up, more like my Magnum. I can't tell any difference in how the engine starts or sounds, probably because of the quality of the fuel we are using. So far I am happy.

I can't tell any difference in noise either, but the transmission is MUCH better. Much more refined.

The change in shifting patterns and how hard it shifts is so noticable even the wife can tell. :) I am a happy customer...

Thats good news, the tranny always felt pretty weak in shifting to me too. Glad to hear they firmed it up some...

On the difference in engine noise, mine was a pre- May 15 build, and never had the previous TSB done to it. Post-May builds probably had updated ECM software that mine didn't. On Saturday night, when I started it up cold at work to come home, 40 degrees outside, the difference was enough that it grabbed my attention away from watching the other idiots doing their version of the Indy 500 trying to rush out of the parking lot on their way home.

09/05 build date, make me down for EGR failure. I run B20 in spurts 3 tanks of B20 then 3 tanks regular.

I'll be sure to have that flash done when the parts comes in. they won't give me a loaner, so I'm driving it with the CEL on till I get a call.

You know, perhaps a better question for this thread would have been "has anyone using a Provent or other CCV filter had to have their EGR replaced"? After what naturist posted, and what I saw in the intake system of my friends CRD, all that oil getting sucked thru has got to have an effect on something. Will turn 9000 miles on mine tomorrow, no EGR problems yet.

I have a build date of 04/05. Been running Rotella and Provent since 6000 mile mark. Now have 14,000 miles and no problems. I probably just jinxed myself with this post.

Just turned 10k miles. Man I love this truck. I've never had so much fun putting 10k on a vehicle.

Born-on Date: 061005, 10,105 miles, no Provent, a lot less BioD than I'd like, probably too much WOT, and no EGR problems.

My build date was 4/05 and I had a reflash and replaced mine before I bought it, threw the code on our test drive, 30 miles on odometer. Had 39 when I bought it.

Well I am still waitingfor my EGR repair, seems dealer ordered wrong part, they ordered the actual mechanial portion of the EGR. I needed the EGR airflow Control valve PN 5142799AA The CRD seems to run fine, smoked a 3.7L automatic the other day. Two teenage boys driving a '06 Limited would you believe. About the MPG's I can't say as we haven't been tracking them.
