okay so late last night (around 2am) I was heading back up from my Grandparents house on Hatteras Island in my liberty with the windows down and the radio up enjoying the warm weather. I was driving on a very rural road with trees on both sides and some nice curves, when all of a sudden I came around a bend in the road and my headlights reflected back at me. I was going 50 and barely had time to hit the brakes before I hit. There was a flat black Honda CRX sitting in the middle of the road with no lights on. It turns out that the 2 guys in the CRX were so Drunk that they had stopped and 'parked' their car in the middle of the street thinking that they were in a parking lot. The Sheriffs Dept and Highway Patrol came out and couldn't believe that no one was hurt because of the damage the Honda received. The car had a fibreglass body kit on it and when that was installed the owner had left the bumper substructure off so there was no protection in the rear at all. When I hit the car the hatch crumpled and sheared off of the car and was sitting on the ground in front of the car. The rear of the car was shoved almost to the front seatbacks (CRX has no rear seat) The cops also noticed that the taillights (what was left of them) were spray painted flat black like the body of the car and said that was probably why my headlights didn't pick up the reflectors until it was to late. The guy that was 'driving was so drunk that he couldn't tell the officers what his name was, or even what year it was. He also had no license, no insurance, the car had no tags on it and he had 2 warrants. I didn't have my camera so no pictures of the car. Now for the damage on the KJ:

That is right all I suffered was some scratches, a cracked parking light, scratched up plate and knocked off the fog light trim. I knew the ARB was good (this is my 3rd ARB) but I expected more damage than this, especially considering the condition of the Honda and the noise it made when I hit.. I am very impressed!

glad u are ok. go get the kj checked out for hidden damage at such a speed, there may be damage not readily visible without taking the ARB off.

Good post. Very glad no one was injured! So, did your airbag pop? ARB's are supposed to be airbag compatible.

no the airbags didn't deploy, for that the hit would have to be hard enough to shove the ARB back into the sensors, the ARB didn't move a bit!

The ARB would never " move back into the sensors"
Have you seen where the sensors are?

airbags work off inertia anyway.. crushing a sensor haha. normally over 30mph the airbags will launch! your lucky yours didnt. The ARB held up crazy good... i'm so glad i have one!

Yes, they are mounted on the radiator support, and by "the ARB moving back into the sensors" I meant the collision would have to be severe enough to collapse the front subframe/rad support etc. of coarse that was before I was informed that the Airbags are inertia-deployed now (the only cars I have had that the airbag deployed in were older and the sensors had to be hit to deploy) I guess I am really lucky that the airbags didn't deploy then

WOW THat sounds like horrific damage to the honda. Good you were ok oh and the drunk dummy as well. Hopefully he is going to get whats comming to him now that he has been arrested and hopefully won't be on the roads for a long time. In a way its good he wan't hit by a family in a smaller car it could have been much worse than it was for you.

You Definitely need to send this story/pictures to ARB... They might just send you some free swag for use of your pictures/testimonial ;)

OK I am starting to think Tapatalk does not post half the time. I posted a comment here right below Yellow and nothing is there. Oh well, glad your ok. The ARBs are great. I have had a few experiences with mine too and never more than a scuff if that.

The air bags didn't go off cause your KJ said "MMMMM Honda" and the ARB took a bite.
