we drive on asseteaque island national seashore all the time and the sand is very soft and deep and the liberty has never been stuck at all we went to daytona beach a few months ago and the sand there in florida is like driving on dirt roads very packed down,in fact we saw motorcycles driving in the sand (crotch rocket type sport bikes) and wealso hose down the jeep at the nearest car wash before we leave ocean city maryland, then i clean all the hundred pounds of sand out of the floor then the skids and airfilter box
and give it a good hand wash, we usually wash and put a coat of polish before we go out to beach, its a little over kill but may say the paint in the long run!! in maryland at asseteaque island we pay 70 dollars for a 12 month permit and they require you to have a jack, tire pressure gauge, plywood or something 12"x12" square for jacking in sand, shovel and tow strap, if ranger gets you without these its a fine for each item missing,we went about 20 times last year and probally never saw the ranger but 2 times!!
take it easy and dont slam on brakes in soft sand and have fun

Another tip I heard somewhere regarding the 2X6's (to be used as sand ladders) - attach a length of rope to each (I'm guessing 10' or so, maybe less) which you then hook to the Jeep. This way, once you get moving thanks to the ladders, you don't have to stop again to get them, which would cause you to risk another stuck. You can just drive somewhere where it's packed harder with them dragging behind you.

Having driven on the beach in various vehicles, I have always aired down to between 17 - 20 psi and used 4Hi. Never had any problems with not making it through. The sand where I run in NC is usually very soft and has been traversed by many other vehicles. I have not had any problems with 4Hi. The only real issue I've had with the KJ is the fact that the front skid plate is like a giant freaking shovel and will accumulate ALOT of sand and unfortunately, the more you drive, the more sand it seems to collect. The new sand does not seem to knock any of the old sand off. If you do get stuck, I agree that a shovel and something such as 2"X4"s will definitely help you. Have fun.

James

What are you talking about man...4LO is used on trails and rocks, not the beach, cant go fast enough to keep momentum in soft sand...not sure why you thought that...anyways, keep it in 4Partime or even 2WD (can anyone say Pre-Runner?) if the sand is firm enough. Nothing wrong with going down to 15psi and nothing wrong with driving in the water, as long as it is rinsed off immediately afterwards (or asap!) so if you plan to camp then dont do it. Have fun man!
