Just bought an 05 Liberty (6 speed 3.7) over the weekend.
When we took it for a test drive I put it in reverse and the dealer told me you have to hold it in reverse that the 6 speeds dont stay in reverse on their own.

Is this true? Sounded a little odd to me and cant really find much on it (Might not be searching the correct terms...)
It is difficult to hold it in reverse (feels like it is wanting to pop out the whole time)
Cant see my wife being able to hold it without a fight every time.
Anyway, thanks for any input that you may have. TJ

Welcome to LOST :D
If it were me, I would take it back to that dealer and make them fix it because it was a preexisting condition and it's only been a few days. :2cents: Don't quote me, but I believe that most states have a lemon law and it's possible that this might fall underneath of that law. I agree with tommudd, hope you got it in writing.

Hold in reverse?? That's absurd. If that's what you have to do to this vehicle, it's not operating correctly and a danger to drive. Never designed that way. I'd demand they fix it immediately or talk law suit. This problem "could" put you in danger.

I think I remember hearing something like that (with it having problems), but definitely not supposed to be like that.. It's an issue that needs to be addressed.
Sometimes I have trouble putting in gear..

The dealer is BSing you. I have never had to hold the transmission in reverse.

Here is the TSB;

You guys were on point.
The service center couldnt believe that the salesman told me that but parts are ordered and they said it should be taken care of by Monday. No Charge.

Thanks for the quick responses.
Probably just found a new site to check in on daily.
Love when that happens.

YES, in mine it was popping out of reverse quite frequently. If you hold the gear shifter down, it did not pop out.
BUT....I just replaced with fresh rp synchromax and it has stopped. It has stayed in every time for the past two weeks since the fluid swap.
IMHO the reverse thing is no big deal....(I have 39,000 miles on the jeep)
