good idea. Anyone have their stock one to give me? c'mon, with all these aftermarket mufflers going on, there's gotta be a stocker hanging around.

For those of you who are considering the Flowmaster 50 series delta as seen/heard by 2006 KJ, this muffler is much quieter in the cab than the super 44. You can go to flowmaster’s webpage and see the comparison between the inside and outside sound levels. I choose a muffler based on it’s performance, not necessarily on what it sounds like. The super 44 has an exhaust flow that is a little better than the 50. However, on the 3.7L, you’re probably not going to be able to tell a difference between the 44 and 50 other than the sound level. However, and I have no data to prove this, but Flowmaster said that there is definitely a performance difference between any flowmaster muffler and the stock muffler. Naturally, each vehicle will vary, but you might see a mpg increase and a little more power.

I realize this is an old thread, but which is the best sounding, low grunt muffler with little to no interior annoying hollow growl noise when going down the highway? So far I'm looking at the Super 44 and 50 by Flowmaster (which 50 BTW? there are 3 styles of 50) since people say they sound good. But I want something that sounds good and isn't annoying while driving at highway speeds. It would be nice to still talk on a cell phone without an annoying howl.

Thanks!

I'm loving this Thrush Turbo muffler. Especially for $28 at the local auto parts store.

Did you guys get the only the mufflers or did you replace the pipes as well. Full exhaust system?

Most just get the muffler, no real gains with replacing the tailpipe. Same size anyways

yeah i was thinking that since the new one is shorter than the stock, i'm going to need at least a short extension/clamps too...still trying to find a how too, even tho it's pretty simple i'm sure. just want to make sure where to cut and all that stuff.

This is for a KK but it should give you an idea on what to do.

Okay,
So I'm looking at exhast systems now as I finally have an exhaust leak, thus will need to replace soon.

I am seeing the discussion between the Magnaflow and Flowmaster (I've had the flowmaster and liked it on a firebird), but similar to others, I'm not sure I want more throaty noise with a vehicle I'll spend a decent amount of time on the phone while driving in.

So, a couple others that haven't been talked about (at least in this thread), is the Borla or Gibson (I'm looking at catback, since I'm not sure the leak is in the muffler, I have to look closer sometime soon), I think I'll be needing to replace some pipe too.

I'm thinking of going with Tommudd's advice as well and go Magnaflow, just wonder if there are benefits to these other two. My other question, is if I went with the flowmaster cat-back, can you pick which muffler thus selecting your whole system?

I have the Flowmaster Super 40 on my 06 KJ. At first it was LOUD; and sounded aweful. But after a few months, the muffler toned down. I like my Super 40 and it sounds great! I do have a video on YOUTUBE when I first had the Flowmaster put on. My name on their is boneyardlespaul and video is on my page. That video is about 9 months old, thus the sound you in that video to the one my muffler makes now is totally different. If your whole exauhst system is going bad, just buy a whole kit. I've seen a Magnaflow exausht system. Not too keen on this stuff but it includes the cats, pipes an muffler. The one I'm talking about has a dual exausht and I've seen it on almost every online offroad shop. I think it would awesome on a KJ. If I had the money at the time when I bought my Flowmaster I would have just bought the Magnaflow kit (which is $700!!!)

Dynomax Ultraflo > flowmaster. Sure if you want loud flowmaster is the way to go, but the dynomax sounds better imho and made the jeep run better. Plus it didnt rot during its first winter...

Thanks,
Does anyone have a youtube video of what the Dynomax Ultraflow sounds like?

The reports on the flowmaster and Magnaflow are that they increase HP and Fuel economy, I don't have a good grip on the Dynomax, how are they performing?

Thanks!

Here is mine right after install, the quality kinda stinks as its on my cell phone.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IcuD-XWpTM

Ill try and do another cell phone video of 6+ month maturation.

Edit: well it seems my new cell phones microphone is terrible compared to the bad one I had before. Ill look for something else.
