I ended up going with the Thule Atlantis 1800 and so far I’m pleased. I’m not pleased that I didn’t factor in the larger size with the inability to get it past the 90 degree corner to get it into my basement but that’s another issue
So far I’ve only used it on one trip. I have it set up pretty far back – about 8” hanging off the back and the front of it is about 10-12" front the top of the windshield. I’m thinking about pushing it back even further – there are no issues with clearing the rear glass. I honestly can’t hear that much more noise when it’s on, in fact, with just the bars it makes more noise than it does with the rack on it. However, the sunroof makes lots of noise if I open it. In terms of gas it’s too soon to tell but on day one with lots of cross wind the gas millage was down, on day two with no wind gas millage seemed about the same. Again – to soon to tell. I’m hoping if I can push it back far enough it might actually help the MPG’s. I get better highway millage when I have I have my 18’ kayak on the roof. Time will tell.
