I hope someone here could help...

A few week ago I went 4 wheeling in the Pines in New Jersey, had a great time going in some deep puddles that went 1/2 the way up the door. I have going there alot and never had a problem. Now when i engage 4wd Lock and accelerate I here a squeak from the driver side, but no noise from the front end in 2wd. Now I know that the pines have sugar sand in the water could I have messed up the driver side CV joint?

Anyone else have the same issue?
What should I check?

Thanks,
John M.

If you were going through water half way up your door i would check/change your transfer case and differential fluids for one. Not saying this is your problem, but water could have gone down their breather lines.

Also check your cv boots for cracks or tears.

I had extended the breathers all the way up to the top of the fire wall. I don't think the water got that far up. As for the CV boots I will pull the wheel off tomorrow, but its funny no noise in 2wd at all just under power in 4wd.

So I had some time after work today to take the wheels off and see what was causing the noise... The CV boots look good no crack or tears. It took a little hunting to trace out the noise but I found it....

Image
found this stick wedged between the front drive shaft and front mount
Image
it only rubbed a little bit on the bolts and flange kind of hard to see in pic

Took jeep out for a little spin in 4wd and no noise at all back to normal

Thanks,

John M.
