I don't get it. How could you have three replacement TC go bad with this last one just days of installation. If the problem keeps coming back maybe there is something else wrong causing it. The front pump must put out X amount of pressure to keep the TC from shuddering at low RPM. I think instead of demanding that they put a certain TC in your vehicle, demand that they FIX THE PROBLEM. Since they don't know how to fix the transmission, tell them to replace it, the whole darn thing.

There got to be another problem. My 06 that was built 11/05 and have 100K on it doesn't shudder normally even we have so many steep grades. The only time it shudder is when I'm towing a trailer, 1,500 + up a steep grade in overdrive. At that point I deserved to have it shudder and hit the OD button out of OD and problem solved. I did service it every 30K and make sure the seals are installed with the filters and the spin on filter is recent version. Then I fill with 8 qt of ATF +4 so not to starve the pump. There were others on here that just a goof on the services with the filters and levels caused many problems.

I don't know. the only towing was done during the day yesterday I hauled a light load of brush to the dump. Was never over 40 mph on reasonably flat roads. No problem there. Last night in 5th gear in full lock up I slowed down for construction to about 58. Gave it some throttle to go past a semi while going up hill and boom, there it was. Both dealers have replaced the pump during my many visits so fluid pressure should not be an issue.
Yes if I take it out of OD it wouldn't be an issue, but when not towing this should never be an issue under any circumstances.
I'm thinking crap parts = crap results.
I'll see what they have to say.

O.K.
The saga continues. When I last wrote the shutter had appeared. :furious: Called dealer #2 and the Exec at Chrysler. The next plan is to drop it off Wednesday afternoon for some engineer from corporate to check out and formulate a plan from there.

I'm all atwitter with anticipation. :5SHOTS:

I also found out my A/C no longer works since the full recall which includes replacing the combo platter condenser/ tranny cooler. That will get fixed then too. I hope.

So, to sum it up, I still have a shutter, I will be once again inconvenienced, and the A/C doesn't work.

Crap.

Apparently it is part of the "full recall", along with the install of other defective parts. I have read that the debris from the TC as it deteriorates can clog up the tranny fluid lines causing an overheat/ meltdown. :dead:

Funny. Replace all that crap and still put in a TC that is a under-engineered POS, instead of using something they produce that is proven reliable.

Hmmmmm.......

There are two sets of instructions for F37 depending on if it was produced before or after 11/05  The a torque converter was different then those made starting 11/05. On those pre 11/05 units if the tech could detect a noise coming from the TC that indicated it was already coming apart internally they were supposed to replace the front pump and AC/Transcooler radiator to rid the metal filings.

To sum it up those pre 11/05 got the TC replaced with the same one those produced after 11/05 came with and flashes to the TCM and ECM and new front pump and cooler IF the tech could hear a noise.
Those built after 11/05, all or most of them are 06 model year, only got flashes to the the the TCM and ECM. :dizzy:

This was all long before the "euro" tc with the heavier springs was produced.

ok guys, need some serious help here. I have an 05 crd which I purchased not long ago, today the engine shut off while driving so I pulled out turn the key off then stared it back again. when I went to drive the engine would rev up but the car would barely accelerate, the transmission is shifting ok but still the car would have no power at all. I got home park and then 2 hours later took it for a drive with the intention to see what happen and everything is fine again.
I suspect a TC problem but I don't have any shudders, besides today the only thing I've exerience is kind of a power surge when taking off on traffic.
please let me know how does it feels when the TC is going bad and if I am on the right track diagnosing my crd. any help is much appreciated. thnx

Camo,

I have no idea how you could jump to the conclusion that you have a TC (torque converter) problem if your motor suddenly shut off while driving. Strongly suggest you find an experienced diesel mechanic, preferably with VMM KJ CRD exposure.

the reason I suspect about the TC is because the engine was reving up but no speed on the car just the way a standard transmission feels when the clutch is worn out.

Mine feels like a heavy, not quite violent pulsing while in lock-up in 5th gear (now, previously 4th too) while low in rpm and under heavier throttle. Example: when on cruise control in 5th gear lock up decel to 58 at that time, step on the go pedal to accelerate shy of unlock and that is when it occurs for me.

I think you may have another problem in your tranny, but what you describe has not been my experience.

I think you have a fuel problem. When is the last time you changed your fuel filter? Have you started running bio recently? Or any other changes? You bled air from your fuel system recently?

Just some thoughts.

I guess you know it is right when there aren't any problems? I am not sure about your problems, but I ran bio a couple of times, and shortly after I had a problem with loosing power. The engine would rev up, but there was no power to move it. I restarted the vehicle and all was well. I think the fuel filter just got a little clogged and starved the motor a little bit. Not sure though. That is why it seems like a fuel issue to me, but it could be something completely different.

O.K.
The plot thickens. Yesterday I took the CRD to the dealer so this Technical Advisor could look at it. I made the arrangements necessary to be there at 8 am, after working 10 hours on third shift. Luckily, upon my arrival I find out that he will be there around noon. So I had time for breakfast out and a 2 hour nap in the loaner car.

The Technical Advisor looks the vehicle over and does some testing before we take a drive. While I am driving he has a diagnostic tool plugged in to get some “snapshots” when I make it shudder. He is finding what he he feels is good line pressure, etc. I asked AGAIN about the Euro converter, and he already had sent that request up to corporate. That got a no for emissions reasons. When I questioned how that effects emissions, he said that was not what was submitted to the EPA on the official parts list when the vehicle was certified and the corporation would get fined. So in other words it does not effect emissions, only policy. That's Bull Feces!

Another insider in the auto industry that I have talked to has informed me this is only documentation that needs to be submitted. That it would take less than an hour to accomplish this, thus making it legal.

So, the Tech Advisor is recommending a new, not reman, new tranny. :D This would be covered by the 7/70 warranty. I should hear the final answer in a week or so.

As it stands now, nothing is final. However it does seem that they are trying SOMETHING, even though it is not the direction I personally would have gone if the roles were reversed.

Keep you all posted.

I don't know if it will hold up. The max torque on our tractor engines is low in the RPM band whereas the Hemi's is higher. I don't think it would hold up due to that. Also what is the difference in the stall speed? If they are very different this would effect driveability.

Besides you can get the Euro converter for $350 with the shipping.

My :2cents:

The best way to fight is to take my, and others business to the competition.

Patience and perseverance has made this a long and annoying process. I live in the real world where stuff happens, mistakes are made. I understand that. What I don't get is the refusal to make this an easier process, the willingness (directive?) to make the consumer feel irrelevant, and most of all the lack of wanting repeat business. It's like dealing with a self destructive adolescent. :?

I wonder if CEO Sergio Marconi and others at Fiat know they have an automotive division under their reign that is in 10th place in US auto sales and in a race for the bottom.

It still makes me wonder if the best thing for Jeep/Chrysler is to clean house at the executive level and institute a new business model that puts the consumer and quality products first.

Toyota did that and where have they been? #1 in US sales for how long? Hmm...........

true woodtick, jeep has some fun vehicles to drive, but unfurtunately one feels that the executive philosophy "if any" is not to care about the post sale, rather just put vehicles out and forget about them.
