here's a little tip for everyone ... when putting up skid plates ... don't ever put your head underneath them. ouch ...

and it's 36 degrees here and I am working in the driveway wearing a sweatshirt and a flannel and no gloves ... a few years ago I woulda been freezing my butt off ... I guess I need to do some biking this summer and get my fat % under 30 or whatever its at right now.

so here is the progress ... 2 out of 4 skid plate on tonight ... I will try for transfer case and gas tank tomorrow ... Gas tank being the difficult one as I have a hitch to take off and mount back on with it ... anyone want to bet even odds I smack my head again?

If you've got a floor jack, it'll make everything way easier. Even better would be an extra set of hands though.

Oh and the T-case skid is tiny, you should have that one on in no time, hopefully minus the head injuries :D

I do have a floor jack .. I did put the front on jack stands ... ( much easier than my S10 ... lowered about 5/6)

I'll put the back on jack stands tomorrow morn ... I would have put the trans case on, but I had to steal one of the nutzerts for the portion that holds the two front ones on (one of the bolts came ... unwelded ) I'll pick one up tomorrow ...

I'm hoping my son feels a need for bonding tomorrow so he can help with the gas tank ...

I think what whiteKJ was saying, was to use the floor jack to hold up the skid plate while you install it, this way it's virtually impossible to drop it on yourself...Good luck with the rest of the install

well the one that hit my head is actually impossible to drop if you install it right ... you thread the bolts in the back ... slide the plate on then push it up .. then slide forward ... it just took a bonk on the noggin to make me realize the errs of my ways ... the plate is really too small to hold up with a jack ... I will do that with the Fuel tank skid though so I can line up the hitch ...

It sounds to me like a case of Darwin butting in with his pesky theories. :P

I know where you are coming from however, there have been many times that I have wondered why I havent substained serious injury due to the lack of ........... fore thought.

Its easy to hold the skids up with the jack. I put them in place then jacked they up to hold they where they go, no way they can move with the weight of the jeep on them. I did the engine skid+tranny like that, worked great! Then I used the jack as a drill press to drill through the cross memeber for the tranny skid.

I am only really concerned with the fuel tank skid as it need to be held up with the hitch at the same time to bolt them in. The others are really not too heavy to hold and if you assemble them in right .. no need to hld them up with jack ... me ... I tried to get too fancy and let the back bolts hold the skid up while I messed with the front bolts ... lesson learned ... if I ever have to assemble mopar skids again ... I will know what to do.
