So I need to get my front windows to match the rear in my 05 renny.
How hard is it really to do?
Any pros or folks that have done it have any input?
I believe it is 30% to match the rear.
What tint to buy and where to buy it? (guessing cheap e-bay won't work)

Thanks very much!

The factory rear tint on the KJ is 18% (verified by a 'Tint Meter')

I also wondered if I could have my front windows tinted as dark as the factory tint on the rear windows. During my last inspection I had the shop check the tint on my rear windows and asked i"If my front windows were tinted the same as my rear windows would it pass inspection?" The guy checked my rear windows and told me "No." According to : http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/OK/ you can go to a 25% tint, which would be pretty darned close. Here in NC, we are regulated to no darker than 35% on the front side windows....

That's why for nc inspection. I roll the windows down and pull the harness from the window controls. If they ask, "yea they don't work. This is my play Jeep not a DD I don't need front windows ." Yea its wrong but I don't care.

My front windows match the rears

It can be easily done by a good tint shop - and be legal. My fronts LOOK to be the same color/tint as the rear factory tint, but they meet the legal requirements here in TX. The Rear tint would not meet the requirement for front side windows. After my t-boning incident, the body shop accidentally broke my front passenger side regulator. (haha) That was in the period that Jeep was replacing window and regulators as the fix. When they replaced the window, they had their normal tint shop re-tint the new window that they replaced. It looked horrible compared to the one the dealer did before I bought my KJ. It looked much lighter from the inside, not to mention it had a purple colored tint when looking from the inside - out. I already had the name of the shop that the dealer used initially and made the body shop remove the purple tint and have the dealer's shop do it. Matched perfect to the driver's side window, even though they are 3 years apart. I would suggest going by any local car/Jeep dealer and look at the new vehicles on the lot that have front windows tinted to match rear. Dealers cannot sell illegally tinted windows. Look at the bottom corner of the front tinted window for the tint shop logo and phone number, or just go in and talk to a sales manager to see where they get it done.

Well, maybe still check the dealer cars, and call the tint shop to ask what brand and tint % they use. They may be surprisingly friendly.

15% is what my tint shop just said would match the rear of the Jeep. So im going to take mine in Saturday for a tint job. Ga law is 35% so im going to be so under the legal. I wanted to do 20% but he dont carry it and he said the job would be $60 bucks.

I was about to give it a shot as well on the fronts. ebay has these precut ones for pretty cheap. I did a tint job on my car several years ago. The window were pretty curved and it was tough! Im a perfectionist though and the sight of any type of crease or bubble drives me crazy. Honestly it was a bi!tch and better left to the pros. you need a heat gun to make the tint stretch/shrink for the curves and alot of patience. Fo how cheap a roll of tint is, its worth giving it a shot. I would probably by some super low grade to learn on.

 I used to pull the power window fuse when I lived in NC (before I knew any Inspectors)

Luckily here in Virginia the window tint is not part of the safety inspection, which is really good as the limit in VA is 50% gray and my windows are tinted 2%.

yes according to this the darkest you can legally go is 25%

http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/OK/

25% will be a little lighter than the rear but it probably won't be too noticeable. (Like I said above the rear windows of a KJ measure out at 18%)

Yes in GA 15% is also illegal. 35% is the legal in GA.

alright, so having trouble finding exactly what I need still... yes I am stupid sometimes, just want to purchase the correct tint.
I have an 05 renny with factory tint on all except front sides.
So do the front windows have any tint on them?
What do I need to purchase (maybe a link for me) to make mine be close to the rear tint... and I live in OK so apparently I can go to 25%.

Thank you for putting up with my... call it what you will!
Thanks

My tint guy said that most front windows on SUVs are 2%-3% from the factory.
I cant help you with a link. If it was me I would just go have it done bc my front 2 windows with 15% tint was only $60. It beated buying the tint and trying it myself then it not working out and then having to take it to a pro to get it stripped and redone.

I have had 30% on my front windows for about 3 years noew i think it matches factory perfect, and here in IL they just redid the tint laws use to not be able to have anything on the front and any darkness on the back, but just change to 25% all around. just my :2cents:
