Complete newbies from Lancashire in England.
2002 Cherokee(Liberty) 2.5 CRD bought in February 79K miles....only returning 19MPG
My wife loves the way it looks and drives.. .so we're keeping it and started a proper maintenance program..

So far.. cleaned up MAP sensor, changed consumable filters, replaced injector seals, disabled viscous heater..

MPG upto 22 but smoking and running cool...

....now sent into garage for Timing Belt, Thermostat, transmission and diff oil changes...air con re gas... new tyres... then off to Scotland... so will report back with pics and updates.

Nice to see another member from the UK!!
There is a lot of information here for CRD mostly for 2.8, but if you look there is also for 2.5 around.
I have also a CRD 2.5 2003 (85K mls). I assume you are looking at MPG in US and not UK. I run the trip computer in metric so to give you an idea i get 10~11.5l/100km ( 25mls Gallon UK / 20.45mls / Gallon US). Mainly on short runs and i run bigger tyre 245/75r16 MT(mud terrain), on longer runs i get down to 9.5l/100km (29.83mls/gallon uk, 24.5mls/gallon us).
