Is there anyone out there that fabs winch bumpers for the KJ besides ARB? presonally I like the ARB bull bumper but at 100 pounds and a cost of $1K there has to be something out there that is a ltlle easier on the suspension and pocket book and will still do the job?

Well youll either get one or the other for a KJ. It will either be lighter on the suspension and not your wallet or the opposite.

Sadly KJs dont have a huge or even decent aftermarket compared to other jeeps and it gets much worse with the KK sadly.

Guess I may need to suck it up? My warn 8000I weighs 50 pounds with the synthetic line on it, I was hoping to find a bumper that wasn't quite so heavy...... You're right there isn't alot of options out there.

You could do the backbone if you didn't want the arb :P

Yeah a backbone is another option. You could always talk to rock lizard about their options.

it was my understanding that rock lizzard wasn't producing anything right now? Is that incorrect??

the back bone is pretty cool but without some kind of bull bar protection I would think the radiator would be vulnerable in a hit? It is definately an option though, someone did their homework when they came up with that idea. Looks like a good mount and fit up.

You could expand from the backbone rather than put the fascia back on. It would make a pretty decent "ground plane" for a bumper

Another option is a TJ bumper and backbone. Granted wont have that bull bar you want, but Im sure you could have someone weld one on.

TJ add on would probably be the easiest / cheapest / quickest way to go about it

Mount it on very similar to the way DTang did his

Tell ya what, if you hit something with the backbone set up you are going to cause some major damage to the other persons ride. Backbone is very stout and mounts into the frame rails, you would really have to hit it to run it into the radiator and if you did I am not sure the radiator would be your biggest problem. It mounts up really high and gives great clearance.

I use it with the stock bumper fascia trimmed to fit around the mounting plate. With the synthetic line it only adds about 60# to the front including the winch. Backbone is about 35# by itself.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm got a few minutes before I make a decision as I'm moving to Upper Michigan in a few weeks so my tools / welder .. etc is all packed up. I'm probably going to go with the Rock Lizzard phase I bumper with winch plate.

You lucky dog! I'd move to the U.P. in a heartbeat, if I could only find a job. If you get the chance, don't forget to pay Drummond Island a visit: It's worth the trip, just to get out to marblehead. (And you just might get a chance to try out the winch.)

I've been chomping at the bitt to get to Turtle Ridge as well as the iron range park in Minnesota. I'm sure the Rubi will make the exploritory runs as it isnt easily stopped these days. I'm in a bit of a better position than most as I have a retirement and plan on living cheap with a bigger garage (3 to 5 car) Thought I had found that but the sellers decided their turd was gold plated and wouldnt come off the price......the search continues!
