Stopped at a gas station to fill up the jeep and turned off the AC then shut it down to pump the gas. Went to start it back up and it ran rough for just a few seconds then died (??)Been having some problems with rough idle here lately but I thought i had cured that by cleaning the throttle body and IAC. The Jeep was running fine until I put more gas in it then it just didn't want to start and run, had to be towed home. . It turns over and wants to start and when I turn on the key you can hear the fuel pump come on, but it just won't start and run. ANY ideas, hints, tips, tricks, voodoo, etc would be appreciated. Thanks.

UPDATE: Stealership called this a.m to tell me the problem was a bad fuel injector driver in PCM for cylinder #5 and a bad oxy sensor. Total cost to fix with towing, diagnostic, labor and parts $900 :furious:

How old's the battery?

in the old days you just had to have compression/gas/spark... however these days you have to have enough voltage to turn on the computer - before the ignition will fire. However the starter seems to be on a different circuit and it'll turn over based on current - even if you don't have the voltage to turn on the computer.

Simple check is to get the battery stress tested - you need to know voltage under a load.

Battery is 1.5 years old. Seems to have plenty of cranking power.

Liberty02, did you jeep show any codes? I had a very similar thing happen to me this morning, but no codes. and my fuel rail seemed to have some air in it.

It's easy to test the coil and injector drivers in your PCM,just need a test light. If one is bad it's time for a new PCM.A 3 year old can test the drivers in a PCM,not every shop if full of idiots and diags are not given to that 19 year old kid that can barely do a oil change(hey everyone has to start somewhere though).

In addition to the faulty PCM the engine dropped a valve seat on cyl#6, so it looks like another replacement motor is inbound. Just heard back from LKQ this past week and after they checked it out that's what they found. Won't get a new warranty with the new engine either just the remainder of this warranty, also I'll have to pay the stealership upfront and get reimbursed from LKQ up to $50 per hour on labor. Problem is the stealership charges $70 an hour for labor so guess who gets to pay the difference. Fluids aren't covered either..
