I have two radios, a General Lee that rides with me in my Mack tri-axle dump truck, and a Galaxy 959 that the General replaced, peaked and tuned, that is sitting at home waiting for it's next assignment. I'd love to put the Galaxy in the Liberty, but I just can't find a decent place to put it. About the best location I can find is on the passenger side of the center console, but then it still takes up the whole area between the glove box and the seat as it has a big chassis (larger then a Cobra 29). Also, with the metal mounting bracket, it would stick out pretty far, and I can see passengers constantly bumping it with their leg or knee.

My question, short of buying a cheap compact radio and letting the Galaxy rot, is where can I reasonably mount this thing? And if I do end up on the center console, how can I do it without drilling holes for the mounting bracket, or even better yet, not using the bracket at all? If any of you also have pics of YOUR CB location, I'd appreciate seeing them as well.

Thx.

i have a cobra 29 in the elastic band on the driver side of the KK... you could try under the seat but then you really can see if.... maybe be the first to modify the center console. It really cant be mounted overhead or on the dash so options are somewhat limited.

I'm short so I have the seat up too far I think to be able to use it. It would be cool if there was one of those on the passenger side as well. Perhaps I could look into moving it???

Could you mount it on the passenger side of the center counsel, between the seat and the storage area? I would have to go measure to be sure there's enough room

I've got a Cobra 18 weather. I mounted it on the passenger side of the tranny consol. I rarely have front seat passengers so no big deal about reduced leg room really. When I do, passengers don't seem to mind. I can't move the passenger seat too far forwards without pulling the radio out. No biggie I guess. If you search through the "What have you done to your KK" section, you'll find there has been several blogs and photos of what you are after. Hope this helps. Happy :JEEPIN:

That sounds like it's roughly a 1 DIN sized CD radio. (actually a bit over 1 DIN) I suppose that if you also wanted to upgrade the stereo you could pull the current one and add in an aftermarket 1 DIN stereo radio, and then just put the CB radio in underneath it. You'd have to get an aftermarket 2 DIN or custom console plate, and it'd be a tight fit, but I think you could make it work.

Failing that there's always the in-armrest storage in the center console (assuming you don't have the 6 disc changer in there, of course.)

That would be very cool!

Thanks for the replies so far. I don't have the 6 disc changer so I might be able to do something with in-armrest idea. We'll see.

I was originally looking for spots to mount a box for a cb radio but it's cramped in the front and I couldnt see anything that I wouldn't jam my leg into when getting in/out or the with a passenger in the front. If you don't have people sitting in the back often you could consider mounting it on the back of the console or I have seen people mount them under the seat.

I ended up getting this one just because it was the only one I could see fitting nicely in the interior:

How is that working for you? I've heard mixed things about it's reliability.

I have that CB as well.
Sometimes I get some good range.
The built in speaker isn't the best, but it's sufficient for what I use it for.
Just make sure you have your SWR tuned correctly so you don't burn out the internals.

It's been working great for me... I've used it's weather function a lot when driving just to see how it's going to be later in the day. I don't have any problems with the speaker. I've heard people complain that it's not loud enough, but I've honestly never put it up to full volume because it's WAY to loud being mounted right in front of me. I've had it for 8 months so far.
