Are the tires on there still good? Hold air? Have plenty of tread?

If yes then you do not "need" 35" tires you "want" 35" tires.Going to 35" tires "requires" regearing, unless you don't like your trans(either manual or auto). If it's got a D35 in the rear your better off dropping to 31" tires anyways.

A rubi 44 will be going in shortly. Given its still for sale in a couple weeks. If not its getting a 8.8 with 4.10s already in it. Then just need to regear the front or find a d30 with 4.10s.
I had this all planned out when I started looking for tjs.

I'd be thinking alot lower gears then 4.10's,the 4slow needs all the help it can get.4.88's if manual trans or 5.13's for auto trans.

I need a gearing that can maintain highway speeds without having the rpms at 3k

At 3k rpm's your engine is in it's peak power band, move out of FL and you'll be wishing for lower gears.

Anyways if you have the 42RLE auto trans with 4.88 gears your only turning about 2500rpm's at 65mph and about 2800rpm's at 75mph.Add about 150rpm's for 5.13 gears.

Its a stick.
If I'm running 35s and 4.11s I'll be turning about 2500rpms going 65 in 4th gear. 4.56s and 35s I'll be turning about 2800 rpms in the same situation.

Put in 5th and turn 2500rpms with 4.88's,all the gears will be more useable even OD(5th gear).

I'm not looking for the most power though. It's a dd so I'm looking for a good medium. Decent power while sacrificing as little mpgs as possible.

I dont understand your logic. Why wouldn't you use 5th gear? I agree with tkjk with the gearing. I wouldn't even want to go 75 on 35's.

5th gear has no power. I was in 5th cruising 65 when I hit a bridge. I was going 60 by the time I hit the top and my foot was planted to the floor. Accelerating from 60 to 70 in 5th takes about 20 minutes. So I just leave it in 4th and ~2300 rpms

Thats due to your gearing being off already
you should be able to use 5th as well as any other if its set up right
but everyone wants to throw bigger tires on and then not have the ability to use it the way it was built ! :banghead:

I went down to 31" tires with my 4:10 gears pretty much for that reason. So I lost 1/2" of height. No big deal. I like it much better now.

Yeah Chris ( 03CDKJ) is running 265-70s and 4.10s and he says it does great Wish my gears would be a little lower  than 4.10s
