well.. the only marked trails are the ones over near Brown Mountain..

http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/recreation ... in_orv.pdf

we are going sometime this springtime to check them out.. i heard they are aight.. mostly atvs but there are some 4x4 ones.. we usually take fire or logging roads back into the mountains.. most of them are barely kept up so most are recommended 4x4 to take them.. most are closed right now for winter but since its springtime they should start opening back up.. if you go let us know

Depending on how much time you have there is a small group heading to Uwharrie National Forrest. It is near Troy, NC. I think that would take a couple of hours for you to get there from Blowing Rock.

I'm from Bristol, Va and living in Johnson City, TN at the moment. Here's some pics from my last trip to blowing rock. Definately worth the couple of buck to walk out on the rock. Be sure to grab a barbecue sandwhich somewhere!

Richlands Rd between Boone and Blowing Rock was always a pretty good spot to wheel. I have heard conflicting stories about whether or not it is open this year....I'm sure if you find a local in a Jeep they can tell you. I went last year a couple times. Beech Mtn has some trails, its in Boone. The guys on www.nc4x4.com go there pretty often, but I have not been yet.

Have fun, its a beautiful area!!
