Hi all,

I just recently purchased a CRD. I am loving this forum because it is a great source of information. I had a couple things that I am trying to fix on her:

1) Just cleaned up the intake. Kinda want to get to the EGR valve and do a little cleaning to make sure she can close and stay closed (doing off road mod right now). Is this generally something people try to clean? and where is it?

2) The jeep seems to rattle a little bit at stops. There is noticeable rattle coming from the passenger door. Any history with CRD doors making this noise?

3) All the air conditioning hoses have broken off from their plastic retainers. Anybody had this issue either? both 2 and 3 indicate there has been quite a bit of rattling in the car, but the motor mounts look great. Sometimes at stops she shakes pretty good, but move the car to park and things get much better. This does not happen at every stop though. Thinking about changing out the transmission fluid and filter.

4) Wiring harness bridge over the top of the engine does not have nuts, but there are bolt lugs that look like I am missing 3 lock nuts.

I think that is about it. Maybe going to do a GDE flash soon. Thanks.

Sounds like it spent alot of time on rough roads.
The rattle is probably from the matching fuse panel on the passenger side.
Check your tranny mount too.
If you've got at least 80K you should look into replacing your U-Joints.
Wiring harness bridge isn't supposed to have nuts.
Yes! Change tranny filter!
Definately do the ORM and EHM

My 06 CRD at 46K has only been "off road" 4 times and that was on a beach :jester:
The plastic clamps along the top of the radiator on mine broke very early. I used cable ties, 2 per fastening point like a butterfly and they have been fine. To make the butteryfly loop one around the pipe/hose leaving it loose. then use another 90 degrees to and around the first betewwn the two lines and pull it tite :jester:
That makes the first one like a figure 8 with the second one keeping the lines apart :JEEPIN:

he Flow Control Valve on the intake side of the engine is supposed to smooth shut down shudder but a little is normal.

the wiring harnes bridge originally had metal clips that were a pain to remove to clean you MAP sensor. Get some 6 mm nuts and washers to secure the bridge.

Windows regulators are a problem on all Liberties and it's possible your passenger side door has been taken apart and not put back together correctly :?:

x2 for the fuse description panel door on the passenger side, that thing drives me crasy i fixed it about 10 times and im about to put a screw in to hold it in place, always have to crank the music to stop getting pissed hahaha.Best ive did for now is with velcro, but it came back after 3 months.

If its in the door, yes be worry about the window plastic linkage, window might fall in the door and break, and what a mess it does, you will find glass forever...

Check the passenger side motor mount, wich is one thing our crd are known for.

x2 on wiring plastic bridge,no nuts there, only a kind of star locking flat washer that you press down and it locks on the treads.

Super strenght u-joint would be a great idea, your crd puts down a lot of torque.

Dont forget the map sensor while doing the intake cleaning,as in the noob guide,it gets a lot of junk and make the jeep blow smoke, wich can be funny sometimes, but personally,i dont like my jeep to blow like an old tractor

One thing i would also suggest,is to get a good air filter, one you can wash,on the long run you will save money,a turbo engine needs clean air at all time.

rattle is probably an Engine mount - the passenger side goes first because of the exhaust heat.

It's virtually impossible to tell if a motor mount is good by a visual inspection although I've seen 1 mention of a mount collapsing enough so lower engine parts almost touched a cross member. Best bet is to take the passenger one off and inspect it by shaking, if it rattles it's bad. FYI the 2 motor mounts are identical but for the heat shield on the passenger mount that can be moved to a new mount so if you need a passenger side mount just get the driver's side and switch the heat shield. GDE has a good passenger side mount replacement writeup.

If #3 refers to the clips on top of the fan shroud I'd suggest you get a piece of block ethafoam (semi-hard closed cell foam, often white used in packing electronic stuff or some kids water "noodles"). Cut a few small cubes and if you are feeling energetic cut a channel into the cube about pipe size or just an approximate "V" groove. Drill an extra matching hole in the fan shroud; route a wire tie or even 6" or so of copper insulated speaker wire thru the holes, insert ethafoam cube between holes, rest AC line on cube (in groove if one cut) and secure with wire tie/speaker wire. Cheap>free effective and padded, no rubbing no breaking and lots of vibration dampening.

So i just purchased both the sump filter and what looks to be like an oil filter. Should I also try to flush torque converter as well?

Honestly cant remember if the TC has a drain plug. Depends on the condition of the fluid I guess. I always have my trannies serviced by a local guy who specializes in race and pickup pull trannies. Could do it myself but then I don't get to go over there and BS with the local racers.
