You can hear the spider gears break at 45 seconds in.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B18omVHHMCs

I pulled the diff yesterday and inspected the internals. Luckily only the spider gears were damaged. These gears were in a 'good used' carrier that we had JBA use to built up our steel front diff. (No way are we blaming JBA.) I'm assuming that these are just OEM spider gears.

Those that have experience with these things, are Yukon spider gears worth the extra money or are we fine with new OEM gears?

I would be that they are just selling factory ones, no? If the option were spicer over yukon, I would go with spicer.

YOu're looking for spicers for the front 30? Are they the same as in in XJ? I think I have XJ Dana 30 spiders hanging around if you want, PM me if you're interested.

If you didn't have the IFS I would say just throw a locker in there!! Did you say you have a steel front diff though instead of the aluminum one?? If so....why not lock it???

well I mean steel one for a liberty.

I haven't modded my wife's liberty, just maintenance....and maintain a few libertys at work too. my XJs are modded....pig iron diffs and steel housings from the factory!! Of course, we still beef those up/swap in larger units too, haha.

I had a set of Yukon ring/pinion in my old Astro, worked well. Know some guys who run them in there wamed up LS1 Camaros/TA's and they hold up in those also. I would buy another set of Yukons.

That was one righteous big "pop" you made there, Mario. Years ago I wheeled a lot with a real old school red neck character who always referred to the accelerator pedal as the "breakage" pedal.

:goink: Thanks

Yeah, the diff was installed the week before, but a "good used" case was installed. Guess it wasn't that good.

I'm mid-process putting the new gears in. Need a punch to push the retaining pin out.

No problem! Sometimes I watch that video on my iPhone for humor.

(This is off-topic but I don't care...)    Oh, and every time I see an Astro van, I think of you all.

Thanks
:goink:

P.S.
There's one up the road from my house that looks all patriotic.

Yall acttually sealed it for me there will be and ARB in the front of mine found a nice used one for 400 that came out of a rolled libby. Also found Yukon 4.10s for the rear and Yukon carrier for 100 bucks and got a whole 8.25 axle to go with it the gears have less then 500 miles on them. Now for 4.10 gears for the front and install kits and an ARB locker in the rear.
