So Ive found a CRD. My old sport bit the dust the other day and I was looking for a new one, well I found a CRD in my price range. Ive been reading up on them. I really want it. It has a green diesel tune and the dealer said the timing belt was changed but Im not sure how to tell? It has a badge from Green Diesel. But Does that mean anything? Its really clean, but Ive never had a diesel before so Im really excited and nervous. Im pretty sure Im going to get it. But my question is how to tell if it has the tune done to it or the timing belt changed or any other new parts? And He also says its a Rocky Mountain Edition, what does that mean?
Heres a few pics for you guys

easy way to tell if the tune is still there... when starting for the first cold start off the day, the idle will flare up to 1250 rpm or so... then come back down to 750 rpm... If it starts and goes right to 750 than the dealer wiped it....

X2 but you can also call Keith at GDE with the VIN and I bet he can tell you.

As to the timing belt even if you pull the front end stuff to get to the belt I don't know if you could be positive although the condition of the writing on the belt might be an indication and if someone painted alignment marks on the cams, fuel pump, crank and such. By "dealer" do you mean a Chrysler/Jeep dealer? If so make them show you the service ticket or report they are supposed to place in the Chrysler/Jeep service records that are tied to the vehicle VIN (that's the sort of record CarFax hits on to show when a vehicle went into a dealer for service and what was done). If by "dealer" you mean another brand Factory dealer at minimium I'd want to see the parts order and talk to the mechanic that did the work. If by "dealer" you mean XXX Used Car lot I'd have a real hard time believing them. Alternatively if this is a trade in and it has the GDE tune then the previous owner thought highly of the vehicle and likely is/was a forum member that could confirm the TB status. Short version on a timing belt on a CRD I would not take any dealer or seller assurance without some additional proof or warranty.

If I sound cynical, been there done that on other vehicles, never mind forum members that have been told 1) the CRD has no timing belt it has a chain or 2) "our mechanic" inspected the timing belt and it's fine (you cannot inspect the timing belt without getting so far into the front of the engine that you might as well change it - e.g. they inspected the serpentine belt and did not know the difference)

Sort of related, but with my F37 CRD, when i cold start it in the morning(around 30 degree's today) it goes up to about 1200 then back to 750 albeit a tad slower then when its warm up.

yes that is good news. now you don't have to have that done unless a dealer wiped it and then Keith would probably not charge you much to reinstall it.

That looks like a nice find having the GDE done means the last owner knew about caring for it more than the average driver that just fills and goes until there is a problem.

I don't see the F37 flash sticker on the radiator support where mine is. If the previous owner avoided that, you're in luck as well.
