Ok, so about 3 years ago, I slid on black ice into a sidewalk at about 20mph...i had an alignment the next day, it still pulls to the left, but not as bad after the accident. To this day it still pulls to the right, but every time the alignment has been done, the specs are good, but it just still pulls to the right. I am going to be buying new tires this spring and i do not want them to wear out prematurely from the steering issue. What are some things I can do to diagnose to completely fix this problem? Could i have damaged the rack and pinion? how can i check if that is the problem? tie rods? anything?

Steve

Have they ever checked to make sure the cradle is still where it is suppose to be. After years of Chris having alignment issues my alignment guy found his cradle is pushed back just a little bit on the drivers side causing a pull , not bad but some

im assuming that is non replaceable...or is really expensive

i talked to aaron (ihatemybike) and we are going to get tie rod ends (moog) and then add those, then get it aligned, have it checked over after all of that...if its all said and done, it will be fine..if it still pulls, then we will check further into the r&p and stuff...but for now, a lifetime alignment plan and $50 in tie rod ends seems good

any more advice jeepers?

Come on now
No you don't have to replace, sometimes they get shoved back some on one side when hitting something like you did. Just need to pull it back to where it belongs is all

Tie rod ends will not make it pull to one side, alignment, bad tires etc will though. So why are you replacing them? Are they loose? /worn out?

What are the alignment specs(pic of print out?).Without knowing the specs it's just a guessing game. You can have all specs in the green but still have a bad pull, might not ever wear the tires funny but will pull.Could be a tire issue also and could be the rear axle that is causing the pull but without a pic of the alignment printout I can only guess.

they are worn out yes. alignment has been done three times since this incident, and everything checks out, rear axle is fine, not shifted at all. front has just always pulled to the left after hitting that curb. so, i want to replace the tie rods with the moogs because i want to have all front end components to be moog later on. so i want to replace the tie rods due to wear and might as well get them replaced now. and i also think that the left side TR is F***** up from crashing lol

the rear end checked out fine, and it had the pull when the tires were new as well, now they are at about 30k on them, and i am replacing them with duratracks soon (summer) so i want to figure out this pulling issue now before i get new tires for $700+ and ruin them. I should have an alignment done in a month with the new tie rods (i want them for the fact my driver side one is shot and just for an upgrade) so i can get the specs around then as well

OK but Chris' checked out OK as well, had it aligned at several different alignment shops, all said it was good, but had a pull. Like I said my shop found the cradle was shoved back just a bit on one side, not bent just tweaked some.
I'd try and find the real problem first then move on. If its been pulling since you hit the curb then there lies the problem

Is it pulling or just a slight drift, to the right? Reason I ask is because most roads are designed in a crown shape to run the rain, snow etc. off to the side in an attempt to keep puddles from developing on the roadway which would cause hydroplane, etc.... here in the U.S. we drive on the right side of the road. Usually on the right side of the crest of the road. Typically a slight drift to the right is normal, which can be magnified at highway speeds and/or larger tires. You mentioned that everything checked out OK by the alignment shop maybe a second opinion, and possibly a third. If everything checks out OK again, I'd leave it alone. Hope this helps.

Tony

o no...its a hard pull to the left...as in i can let go of the wheel and it will tear off into the left lane, i have tried tires...this is my 2nd set of tires since the accident

A hard pull is either a bad tire or cross camber/caster is off by alot. Now camber/caster can be in spec but what those printouts don't show is cross camber/caster,those are only displayed on the alignment rack in most cases.

now if my cross camber/caster is off by a lot...and it was caused from an accident, what would you conclude from that? as in just from understanding i took a pretty hard slide into the curb and have had alignments done since then. would there be any parts to look at after an alignment? or what would you look for once you did an alignment and you noticed the specs said they were good, but then the jeep still pulled to the left (tires are ok in this case)

Got mixed up thought pulling right, not to the left. Tearing off into the next lane if you don't hold the wheel... WOW hope it can be resolved. Tony
