My wife has repeatedly complained about her 05 Liberty (48k miles) losing rearend traction while cornering. She says it's much worse when the roads are wet.

The tires are Firestone Destination A/T's w/25k miles and 1/2 tread remaining. They are also very highly rated for wet road and hydroplaning resistance on Tirerack.com

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... tion+A%2FT

I keep the tires are 35psi. The suspension/shocks are OEM and appear to still be in good shape.

She's no lead foot and is a pretty good driver. So I don't believe she's flying around.

Anyone else experience this ?

How many years old are the tires? If they are like 5 years old, they could be sort of "dry" therefore reducing wet traction.

i had this problem really bad with my stock wranglers. i didnt feel safe pulling out into a tight space in traffic if it was wet out unless i had 4wd on. if you arent expecting it and really get on it you can really slide it out.

Nah troy i am right there with you love doing it in front of the little hondas and the Mall Crawlers they never expect it. But even with my aggressive Coopers they will still slide just tell her to keep her foot out of it in the rain.

a good limited slip in the rear will help a ton with that (assuming you have an open diff now). a detroit tru trac will GREATLY increase your traction when pulling out.

a true locker is even better but your wife would probably not like the road manors.

I had a HUGE problem with the Firestone Destination A/T's, despite all the rave reviews on this forum. I was traveling with traffic at 50mph during a bad snowstorm when for no reason my rear end swung out and I ended up taking out two other cars. It was all because of these tires. Everyone else on this forum complains about the stock Wrangler SR-A's yet I had absolutely no problems with them. Now I run strictly Nokian Vativaa's so I don't have any worries.

Not EVERYONE. I NEVER had problem with my stock 235/70 16 SR-As. I HAVE had problems with winter and wet traction with 245/70s. Enough so, that I went back down to my stock size for the winter. I'll see if it's the tires or the size, IF we ever get some snow.

In the meantime, put a couple of hundred pounds of sand in the back, and it will help tame her down.

as soon as the sipes are gone from the outside edge of the tires they will not grip the road worth a dam, my wife spun hers around on the road going about 20 mph. New set of tires and a lot better road hold.

While i dont have the best tires around, they were pretty decent for the first 2 or so years in the rain. But that still doesnt matter as it still got loose fromt time to time. Its the nature of a rear wheel drive vehicle. Once you get used to how it handles in the rain (traction changes with tire age and suspension geometry changes). If the tires are in good condition and so is the alignment i would just adjust her driving habits to compensate for how the tires are evolving as they wear. Basically what I have had to do now with 35k on my tires as they have changed quite a bit since they were new.

Oh and take tirerack ratings with a grain of salt as most do their review on brand new tires and arent really techincal people.
