So I was tired of getting 19mpg and putting miles on my KJ. So yesterday I went and bought a cheap car to put the miles on and get better MPG. Time to clean the Jeep up and park it in the garage. Turning it into a trail only rig. For now gonna just park it and focus on paying it off once it is payed off......

So anyways if your looking for cheap cars, look at insurance companys. I got a 1999 Pontiac GrandAm GT with 125,000mi for $1,900. Insurance totaled the car because it was gonna cost more to fix the paint where it got nicked than the cars worth. I mean there is nothing wrong with the car. Looks sharp.....anyways I'm done blowing steam. time to let the Jeep mods start :JEEPIN:

Yeah, but your fuel calculations are showing a total of 20.2 miles per gallon. :goink:

My last car was a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am, with the 3400 engine. Not bad for a daily driver, I averaged 20MPG city and up to 32MPG highway.

Not sure if you're aware of the Lower Intake Manifold Gasket problems on these, if not, keep an eye on your coolant. Make sure it's not disappearing or car running hot.

Also,

Let me know if you need anything from Alldatadyi.com. I still have a subscription for my 02 Grand Am, not much difference.

Thanks for the heads up Jaber. I'll keep an eye on that. They seem to be good cars as far as something cheap to put some miles on. My ex wife had two of them and they made it through her somehow

I have been thinking about doing the same thing. I'm going to buy a used KK here soon and after about a year buy a daily driver with good MPG and fully mod out the Jeep for off roading.

Definitely the way to go, I'd also like to build out a track car I could trailer with the Jeep to the track.

I must look at the world differently. I can't stand to drive a "car" at all, none of them. If I am going anywhere I want to drive something that is fun to drive and what I want to drive, not because it gets a few more miles per gallon.
Why own a nice build up Jeep or anything else for that matter and not drive it?

I used to have an old Camaro I bought to put miles on....then it turned into a project also lol. When it was all said and done that car was only getting 12mpg, but it was fast as hell. Pass anything but a gas station.

Stay at home or fill my 70 dollar tank every other day... Got the jeep for trails, weather and nights on the town. Ill spend the majority of my time around the other idiots on the road with the beater... Good luck KJ Wheeler!

This is my theory too....I didn't spend the money for nice tires nor for OME springs and Bilstein shocks to park it....

I tried the car thing - turns out I get worse gas mileage in my Nissan than any of my Jeeps. 300hp and twin turbos might have something to do with it, or the fact that I treat the throttle in it as binary, on and off.

So when I want good mileage I drive the Jeep, went I want to go fast I drive the nissan.

19mpg on the highway going 70mph....99% of my driving isn't on the highway so I was only getting like 115 or 13 around town......by the way....I added up what the car was getting and it gets 28hwy and 25city.....not bad

I had a 01 Grand Am with the 3400 in it that I bought for $500.00 because the previous owner overheated it. I replaced both headgaskets (super easy job on this engine) and loved that car but I only had it for a month before letting a friend borrow it, he got drunk and hit a guardrail and then drove 5 miles on the rim until the CV Axle broke  The insurance company gave me $3600.00 when they totaled it out though so I still made a decent profit:
