I tried searching KK vs KJ but cannot search 2 letter words. So here goes. At work we have a nice KK for sale for a real good price. Especially for me since I am a salesman now. I should be able to keep my payment the same going from my 02 KJ to an 08 KK. It would have 30,000 less miles on it too. I would loose the leather. I do not off road too much as I do more of the overland type o stuff. I really am :banghead: about this as it seems like a good deal. I want to know your guy's opinion. How do they differ i.e. if I lift the KJ is it better the same or worse then a lifted KK. What about cost on aftermarket? How much is available? If anyone here has made the switch (which I imagine there are ppl here who have) what are your thoughts?

They're essentially the same underneath the sheet metal, but the KK has a stronger front diff(d30M instead of d30a i believe), a rear track bar and i think the KK's wheel wells are a BIT smaller but im not positive on that. Though i would say the KJ's have more aftermarket, because they've been out longer and have steel bumpers and such readily available unlike the KK's, but that should change in the future.

overall, you'd be fine with either one. Do you want a new car with less miles? or will you just stick with what you have until you can upgrade later on?

Well my KJ now is fine. It will need some work soon but nothing I cannot handle. I just am torn as I like both. But I like different things about the both of them.

I love my KJ.
I do enjoy the KK.
The KJ feels more nimble.
The KK is roomier.
The KJ [appears to have] has more room in the wheel wells.
(As mentioned) The KK has the stronger front differential allowing you to put 4.56s. (Not only 4.10s like the KJ)
You can put a massive spare tire on the tailgate of the KJ.
You are (somewhat) limited with the spare under the KK.

Since you say you wont be rock climbing, I think either will be fine.
I say take the KK home for the week/end, and see how you like it.
I had a loaner KK for a week, and I wasn't thrilled with the driving position.
I also love the SkySlider on the KK.

Enjoy!

I like the styling of the KK better.

A fraction of KK's where sold so even less aftermarket support. Barbie & Ken styling and dial-a-t case. Debt vs asset, you never know when your next meal is coming in the car biz.

and here comes the shitfest :-)r

everybody will say different things. The diesel is expensive to repair, hard to find parts for and can be a pain, but i personally love mine. i get 20 town with my mods and winter blend fuel, it can tow as much as my dads v8 avalanche and has had 160k of virtually no issues. I will say that if it was a gasser when my dad gave it to me, i would have sold it and got a wrangler. I really only kept it because it's a diesel

Heres a thread about a guy wanting to buy a CRD. Take it with a grain of salt.

The CRD KJs are somewhat harder to work with. I would prefer a low mileage gas KJ. There's one for sale on here for $8,000. Already lifted, aftermarket bumpers, etc...

What would you know about working on a CRD?

If i could go back and do my kj experience all over again I would go for a crd without a doubt. But thats not to say the 3.7 hasnt been a dream to own cause it sure has been.

We first bought a 2005 CRD and loved it when it wasn't having issues. We traded it for a new 2007 gasser and have loved it since. I think the aftermarket crowd and LOST diesel gurus have sorted out most of the major problems. I love diesel, but right now diesel fuel is a lot higher than gasoline and has been for several years.

I personally am a diesel guy. Worked for freightliner for a few years as a mechanic. I love my gasser but like the idea of owning a diesel.

My opinion....love the rumble...maybe tractor like rumble, but still there. Plus it is a diesel jeep, not many out there.
