I mounted Hella 500's pencil beams onto an Aries Brush Guard. They are hardwired to cut on with the high beams. (No switch on the dash). Here's my question- should I add a 3rd Hella flood in between the other two, or just upgrade the current 55w H3 bulbs to 100w bulbs? What do you guys think? I put the Hella's on because they were only $60 off Amazon and I figured I had a pretty good chance of breaking them, so I went cheap. Still haven't broken them yet! (Knock on wood).

My brush guard only has 2 holes pre-drilled. Not a big deal to drill a 3rd one. I just need to measure it correctly first. Just wondering if adding a flood or increasing wattage would be better?

I would upgrade to the 100w bulbs. I did when I installed my 500ff's and it makes a difference. On my old truck I ran 3 500's with the stock 55w bulbs and my jeep with 2 and 100w bulbs is brighter.

Thanks for the info!!! I would have hated to drill the brush guard, install a 3rd light, and then not be happy at all with the results. I think I will make a trip next week to get some replacement bulbs.

I run 100 watts bulbs in my middle 2 lights which are aimed for long range, and the silverstar 55's on my ditch lighters (they are still yellow :| )

Well I put in the 100 watt bulbs and all I can say is, "Holy Crap". They make a big difference. One of my friends asked if I was trying to take an x-ray or if I was just trying to light up people standing behind walls. They greatly increase the distance and the brightness of the Hella 500's and all for about $16 per pair off Amazon. I bought the sylvania version because I figured they are probably made in the same factory that makes the ones for Hella. Just a guess but it sounds reasonable since they are both made in Germany.

Has anyone tried to use the Rigid Dually D2 lights? My brother just told me to look them up and they seem pretty amazing. More of a flood pattern than a spot. but there are some pretty sweet youtube videos that show the differences between the d2's and some Hella 500s. Its a little more pricey, but the way it lights things up, seems to be a good investment, especially if you pair it with a long range spot (if you even need it).

Here's the light and a couple videos

I don't know if you ever resolved your lighting questions but recently I added the rigid lights you mentioned. I put two of the spots on a smittybilt hawse fairhead mount and they're VERY bright. I also have a detoures backbone so I can't speak of the light bars for the bumper. I'm considering adding two floods of the same make and moving all four to my cargo basket if it ever gets here then I'm not sure what to put in their place. I highly recommend Rigid Industries LED lights. One of the best decisions I made was to buy them.
