just did this myself. love how it looks. i need to relocate those pop rivets but as of now it looks pretty good, very easy to do with my dremel. I will relocate those rivets tomorrow... Now if i could get a nice day to do that pinch weld we'd be in business!

the pinch welds were a workout. after about a hundred hits, i realized youve got to absolutely hit the hell out of it as hard as you can every time or else youre wasting your time. bends pretty easily when you really smack it.

i was using a 4lb hammer

do you have pics of your trim job?

its my DD, but im half tempted to just rip the bumper and fender flares off and rock the liberty XJ style. would solve all my rubbing issues

Pictures wil be up soon. Yeah I am thinking about puttig some relief cuts in the pinch weld or maybe just cutting it completely. For sure a challenge but one I need to endure very soon

I'd appreciate pics too. I did this today and feel like I could make it look better if I knew where your cut lines were.

I looked at the front bumper... There is a part that indents real low on the ace of the bumper. I followed that line of the jeep. Then when it stopped I angled down to the middle. I left the part under the chrome to protect the radiator. For the side i just went horizontal meeting the line in the front. To finish it off I put a little trim on it.

the trick is tape it off, make sure you like the tape lines and things are horizontal etc, them trim. trimming the fender wasnt bad but you must cut all the way around them. you also have to trim the inside plastic of the fender wells, Not difficult just try and keep it clean

I did the trim down on the indents portion but I didn't cut it across towards the radiator portion... I'll have to climb under again and work on that.

Yeah... Doesn't look great but I didn't want to cut too much and then be stuck with what I had.

lol I did cut it and "trim" but I did add a trim to it... you don't have to I just thought it looked nicer. Same stuff you put on door edges. Posting pics of the wheel well liner and the side really aren't necessary.. once you cut the front. where the line ends just do straight across on the fender. obviously this is going to be a little bit scary, but tape it off, make sure it's what you want ( straight etc) then cut. I just used a dremel with a plastic cutting blade. for the wheel well liner... just cut it so it's not seen. I think my method was to go from where it has the plastic rivet up front( hold the wheel well to the unibody) and cut go a little lower then cut all the way straight across until you get to the rivet in the fender. If your not comfortable trimming a lot at a time, don't do a little, check it out, do some more etc. My needs are different then yours. I need high clearance and minimal rub with the 32" wheels I am running

there really is no right and wrong to it... i mean if you could fab up a radiator support i'd say cut it like this
Image

what it comes down to is the look you want and the functionality you need

I was pretty sure I read the post correctly when jeepin_it_real said he added "trim"...

anyway, here are a couple of pics of mine. still a work in progress, but i like how it looks from the front. good way to see before and after:

i'd like to add a liner or something so you cant see the inside of the bumper from the side

the sound of silence as I back up with the wheel turned is beautiful :D

My hack job :ROTFL: doesn't help that I had a non-Jeep person behind me having me second guess myself the whole time. "Are you sure you want to do this?" "I would never do this, why are you doing this?" "That's enough... it looks fine stop trimming" :-)r

Image

From underneath... I didn't trim the fender well, I was able to zip-tie a rivet hole from the front up into a hole in the frame... works perfectly (doesn't hang out below the outer fender/bumper).

Image

But I agree, the sound of silence is totally worth it.
