Anyone get this series of codes? I got them suddenly today whilst on the way home.

Just dropped off at the stealership. I usually try to avoid dealing with diesel fuel systems.

do you have the new fuel head?
I think that's the air-in-fuel 'leak detected' code.

at the minimum - you should change a fuel filter
(unless you've done that recently - in which case you should check all connections and make sure they're tight)

I second what ATXKJ said and would install a fuel lift pump.

I changed the fuel filter about a year ago. Only gone about 12K miles since.

My reader said what you did: leak detected

It's definately time to change it then. I'd wager that a $30 filter will make the trouble go away. I usually change mine every 6 months.

Oh wow. Hadn't realized it was needed that frequently.

Update:

Stealership called me back, "We're sorry, but we don't have anyone qualified to work on this vehicle"

But they do have updated codes:
P0093
P0201
V0002 (CAN bus issue)

HELP!!!

The leak issue is probably because... (follow this if you can!)

The fuel pump is attached to the engine, so it pulls a vacuum on the line to draw fuel from the tank.
The fuel system and it's connectors were originally for gas versions with an in-tank fuel pump (e.g. pressure, not vacuum)
The fuel line connectors at the tank, when subjected to sufficient vacuum (cold, thick diesel fuel and a partially clogged/dirty filter), can't prevent air from being sucked in - so air enters the system..
The fuel filter head assy is at the highest point in the system, so the air all collects there - tending to cause hard starts and rough acceleration/smoke. Also, the air can allow it to overheat and cause failures in the fuel heater (also in the filter head).

A clean filter may solve most of the problem - but a far better solution is to add an inline or in-tank fuel pump. That will stop the ingestion of air and those problems will be gone.

At least - that is a common source of the 'leak' codes.

Mark

Thanks for the detailed answer!

I'm at work, and cannot get away from duties enough to search. Can you, or someone who also has the in-line pump, please post the pump link? And instructions?

Or a link to anywhere it is posted?

A friend just sent me this:

http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?c ... in_P_Codes

P0093 Fuel System Leak Detected - Large Leak
P0201 Injector Circuit Malfunction - Cylinder 1

Looks interesting.

Anyone know where to buy replacement injectors for our CRD Libby's?

Rixram - I'd suggest you go to Sir Sam's NOOB site and download both the 2005 and 2006 Factory Service Manuals. You need both as the 2005 has the illustration keys that the 2006 lacks and the 2006 has the cooling and diagnostic information the 2005 lacks. Look at those 1st 2 codes for what the FSM says not what a generic site says. They both appear to relate to "electrical system" issues not fuel leak, although changing the filter won't hurt. I note that you have a 2006 which brings up the possibility of wire chaffing problems where the main harness goes behind the fuel head.

Bottom line is at this point I would not leap to the conclusion that injectors are the problem and even if they are I'd chat with a decent diesel injector shop before I shellled out for replacements.

As to the stealer not having anyone qualified that's BS. If they have the standard scan tools, jumper wires, a volt/ohm meter, and can read the FSM the diagnostic tests for the electrical problems as listed in the FSM are pretty simple.

I've noticed, when driving under load, that pressing the accelerator, letting off, then immediately depressing it again results in a CEL for the leak issue. This makes me wonder if it is the fuel pump unable to pass enough through the filter fast enough, hence the lot of you consistently telling me to change it. I changed it a year ago, but since I do run biodiesel (B99 in summer, B50-ish in winter). Probably clogged, then....

Papadingo: thanks for the lead to the Noob site. Is the link for it available, or just in his bio?

You should be ashamed of yourself for letting it go for so long on WVO without changing the filter.

If your filter has been clogged for a while (one year), your lift pump will in time force or dislodge trapped dirt through the deteriorating filter element, possibly trashing your injectors or the CP3, etc.

Rixram - based on your Bio comments I agree with Racer, start with a filter change. As for the NOOB guide I'll simply pass on what someone else said a few days back to the same question; hit the back button and look up on the screen; it's a sticky toward the top of the topic list. Read thru it as there is lots of good stuff, link to the FSMs is toward the end.

WVO?

No one said anything about WVO.

I run biodiesel. I work at a biodiesel refinery.

Who'd run frigin' dirty veggie oil?

I was stunned to see the local NAPA had the filter, so I went ahead and changed it out. Took a test drive after, and no codes. Runs like before. Possibly better.

So, anyone know why the hell the ECM threw a CAN code for this as well? Guesses?
