I am considering running the CRD without the Catalytic converter for better exhaust flow ..... i am thinking of cleaning out the cat by punching out the platinum.

Any advice?

Hmmm, Platinum is worth some money I believe, around $1490 an Oz on the most recent spot price I could find. Just how much is in there?

On a more serious note, I had heard that the grid in the CRD CAT was very low restriction and that not much could be gained by removing it.

Incredible price for the innards......I wonder if they are still made with platinum.

I heard that the tiny orifices in the cat get clogged in time from excessive soot that doesn't burn off unless the jeep is driven hard.

Then drive it hard.

I have seen catalytic converters clogged with unburnt oil, but that took a lot of driving with a bad engine. The reaction in the catalytic converter ets it extremely hot. One way to check to see if it working is get its temperature after you have been running the engine for a while. I think it should be above 800 degrees.

Some are running without the CAT, there was talk sometime ago about members deleting the CAT restriction, it would be good to hear from them.

Have been running 3 years with "gutted" CAT. Did it to keep exhaust temps as low as possible, but we made so many changes at the same time, I have no clue.

GDE contends there is NO benefit. It definitely is smokier and more smelly, though. If I were married to someone with typical female sensibilities I would NOT do it.
